Sci-Fi fans turn on TEN
In the dying days of 2009, TEN made a programming amendment that saw two of its US shows, Supernatural and Stargate: Universe, dumped from Mondays and replaced with movie repeats.
Since that time, Sci-Fi and Horror fans have been relentless in their anger at the network.
Neither show was rating well enough to stay on air, even in the less competitive summer season. SGU only had three weeks on air, after a successful Fastracking on the SciFi Channel. The long-running Supernatural, which had nearly a three month delay from its US season premiere, …
Oprah to quit long running talk show
“The sun will set on the Oprah show as its 25th season draws to a close on September 9, 2011,” according to ABC’s New York affiliate, WABC’s Eyewitness News.
Speculation has been mounting about Opie’s future plans with her contract with CBS ending and her own cable network launching.
Deadline Hollywood Daily’s Nikki Finke reported she had decided to end her syndicated show and move to her still unlaunched cable Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) when her contract expires in 2011, but WABC says that no decision has been made about whether …
Bold & Beautiful in historic win at Daytime Emmys
It’s only taken 22 years, but The Bold and the Beautiful has finally won its first Best Drama Series award at the Daytime Emmy Awards (it may have helped that there were only three in contention, the other two being All My Children and Days of Our Lives).
The View’s Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and Sherri Shepherd won for Best Talk-Show Host, defeating Regis & Kelly, Rachel Ray and Ellen DeGeneres. But the gals didn’t bother to travel from New York to Los Angeles for the ceremony …
Gone: The Doctors. Returning: Dr. Phil
TEN’s new daytime show The Doctors will be out taking house calls in March as Dr. Phil moves back into the schedule.
Dr. Phil returns from 12pm Monday March 9th with an “Octuplet Special Week.”
Whilst this could well be TEN responding to a topical subject given recent news in America (which was even featured on Sunday Night this week) the show is also struggling in its timeslot at around 120,000 or less.
The Doctors yesterday failed to make the daily Top 100 while The Ellen De Generes Show sits at around 200,000.
A spokesperson …
Looking for the magic touch
TEN’s line up for 2009 includes more factual series than ever, returning favourites and new international content. After a disappointing 2008, especially in the second half, TEN will need the magic touch to win back loyal viewers.
The network made the announcement today as part of a three day tour across the country.
Headlining the announcement is the acquisition of the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Cooking show MasterChef Australia will replace Big Brother across a 7pm timeslot mid year.
Another 7pm strip show is yet to be announced.
The new locally produced factual shows include …
Returning: Dr. Phil
Dr. Phil McGraw is back with a new season on TEN from next month.
He returns with new episodes at 12pm Wednesday November 5th.
These are episodes from early September in the US, that would be after his clumsy “Britney-intervention.”
McGraw is also behind the new series The Doctors, a medical talk show produced with his son, Jay McGraw. That show features a team of medical professionals discussing a range of various health-related topics and taking questions from viewers who are too embarrassed to ask their own doctors. Mercifully, Phil isn’t in it…

Perth bumps Susie as daytime war heats up
On WIN TV today Susie will be seen at the Old Parliament House as part of a special ‘Canberra’ week. Across this week the Susie Elelman chat show will visit The Royal Australian Mint, The National Zoo and Aquarium, The National Science and Technology Centre and the Australian War Memorial.
But while it airs at 1pm in the Australian Capital Territory as part of the WIN Network, how is it faring on the WIN-owned Nine affiliates, particularly in the light of daytime changes elsewhere?
Susie is considered one of the jewel’s in WIN’s …
Seven wins as TEN is taken out
It was the week that Ernie Dingo and Kyle Sandilands had a spat on radio, the ABC renewed its push for a kids’ channel, Access 31 was put on the market, TEN picked up women’s netball from FOX Sports, GTV9 won a Heritage listing, Nine axed its Euro correspondent, Underbelly won the right to start screening in Victoria (sort of), TEN and Seven fought over AFL sponsors and a 17yo reality contestant took a stand on her show’s conduct.
And it was another big win for Seven with 29.9% in Week 37 …
TEN talks to The Doctors
Network TEN has picked up the rights to The Doctors, a medical talk show produced by Dr. Phil and his son, Jay McGraw.
The show features a team of medical professionals discussing a range of various health-related topics and taking questions from viewers who are too embarrassed to ask their own doctors (sure… just ask it on national television!).
Dr. Phil himself isn’t set to appear in the show. So far, the show has been licensed to 11 broadcasters worldwide. It marks the first time a spin-off talk show has emerged from a …
