Summer heats up on ABC

Get ready for summer on ABC1 and ABC2.

There’s plenty to tempt you. Including Doctor Who, Torchwood, Red Dwarf, John Safran’s unaired pilot in which he confronts Ray Martin, a new series from Jonathan Welch, Andrew Denton’s Elders series, Scarlett Johansson and Helen Hunt in A Good Woman, a two part Oliver Twist tale -and much, much more.

It all begins as early as November 15.

Airdate: Hungry Beast

Following TV Tonight’s scoop on Denton’s new show being retitled from Project NEXT to Hungry Beast, the ABC has now confirmed an airdate for the show.

A 10 x half hour series, it will be broadcast on ABC1 at 9pm, and as a daily web program, from September 30th. It will also be shown on ABC2 from Thursday October 1st at 8.30pm.

Hungry Beast will also be available on iView from midnight on September 30th.

Ben Stiller final Enough Rope guest

Andrew Denton will today record his final Enough Rope, to air on December 8th.

Ben Stiller is the guest of the day, set to appear in front of a live studio audience, before hitting the red carpet for Madagascar 2.

As well as filming a second series of his Elders programme Denton will be busy behind the scenes with Project NEXT for the ABC and advertising industry satire 30 Seconds for Foxtel.

Tonight he speaks with Dr Philip Zimbardo and golfer Stuart Appleby. And next week its Angelina Jolie and Clint Eastwood.

Screen Music Award winners

The 2008 APRA – AGSC Screen Music Awards were announced last night in Sydney recognising film and television composers.

Underbelly’s dark soundtrack earned seasoned composer Burkhard Dallwitz two trophies for best television theme and best music for a television series. It beat Summer Heights High, Elders and The Gruen Transfer for best theme. Losing out in best music were City Homicide, Summer Heights High and Who Do You Think You Are?

Former Boom Crash Opera member Richard Pleasance picked up the award for his work on Network Ten drama Emerald Falls, defeating East …
