Pete Waterman to pen UK Eurovision entry
British pop composer Pete Waterman will attempt to craft a UK hit for Eurovision, after Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s song failed to win the 2009 contest.
Waterman, one third of the internationally successful 80s powerhouse Stock, Aitken and Waterman, churned out hits for Kylie Minogue, Bananarama, Rick Astley and Dead Or Alive, and later produced Steps.
“Eurovision is one of those iconic competitions that has stood the test of time and keeps coming up with great acts, great tunes and great performances.
“Life’s full of challenges and I’m relishing the opportunity to put my …
2010: SBS looks beyond Top Gear
Next Monday night SBS bids farewell to Top Gear for the final time.
The show drives off to Nine after a ferocious acquisition battle last year that SBS lost due to being outbid.
But the network is keen to remind us it was just one hour of television a week, and that it still has plenty to bring its “six billion stories” theme to life.
This year SBS has the World Cup exclusive, a third series of East West 101, Eurovision in Oslo, more Mad Men, Skins, Inspector Rex, Entourage and Shameless.
Over summer, the …
How Do You Solve a Problem like Maria?
Let’s get one thing straight. This UK reality series took place in 2006. So if you know the winner there isn’t much point going on with this series. If not, then you’re in for a bit of a camp olde tyme….
Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber has been so synonymous with popular entertainment that it really shouldn’t come as much surprise that even he, a pure thespian, should succumb to the lure of Reality Television to cast his next big thing: the role of Maria Von Trapp in The Sound of Music.

Top Gear loss “not the be-all and end-all”
TV Tonight continues its interviews with key executives in television. Following on from last week’s interviews with Seven, ABC, TEN and Nine, today the spotlight turns to SBS Director of Content Matt Campbell.
The last two weeks have not been without their challenges for Campbell, who learned the fate of Top Gear, a programme he had taken a punt on many years ago when no other network would touch it.
Having spent a lot of time trying to convince the BBC it should be staying at its natural home, he admits the loss …

Public broadcasters, public broadsides.
Why is it our two public broadcasters ABC and SBS can’t seem to get along?
We always seem to be hearing about digs from one side of the fence to the other with about as much regularity as Sydney and Melbourne or Holden and Ford. Is it not clear to both that there is a place on our screens for two networks?
We love the light entertainment on the ABC. We love its news and current affairs. Those British period pieces and crime thrillers are terrific. And on SBS Top Gear is an …
ADbc
I feel woefully inadequate. Like I’ve just been to a dinner party of academics who have all debated the finer points of the art world, politics and philosophy. I just sat there cracking punchlines and flirting with the waiter.
The party of five at ADbc were much smarter than me. SBS’ new panel show is to History what Spicks and Specks is to music, Talkin’ ‘ Bout Your Generation is to pop culture, The Squiz is to sports and… well, you get the drift.
Sam Pang (Eurovision) hosts this new half hour with …
Airdate: ADbc
Here comes ADbc another panel show, this time on SBS with a new history based quiz program.
Hosted by comedian Sam Pang (Eurovision) it will kick off with guest celebs Matt Preston, Tony Martin, Celia Pacquola and historian Emily Booth.
SBS promises the show will be “not too serious and not too worthy, but rather a mix of factual information with intelligent discussion and blatantly silly behaviour.”
Matt Preston wields his historical knowledge as panelists are asked to drink a toast to Emperor Kublai Khan, retrace the growth of the Dutch empire, …
