Talia’s shot at Fame
Talia Fowler, winner of So You Think You Can Dance Australia, has turned down a contract with the San Francisco Ballet company to take up a role in the upcoming stage production of Fame.
She will be joined by another finalist, Nigerian born Tim ‘Timomatic’ Omaji.
The revival of the stage show, based loosely on the feature film, is directed and choreographed by Dance choreographer, Kelley Abbey.
Other television faces in the cast include Andrew McFarlane (Underbelly, The Flying Doctors, The Sullivans) and veteran actor Brian Wenzel (A Country Practice).
The production also has a …
Glee trailer
Here’s a look at the trailer for Glee, Ryan Murphy’s newest project.
Set around a high school choir it is the next project by the man behind Nip / Tuck and Popular -a guy who really knows how to tell his stories. He writes and casts with a very wicked sense of fun. Murphy also wrote the film Running with Scissors. It’s a shame his last project Pretty / Handsome never got off the ground. Australia’s Chris Egan had a role in that one.
Glee was borne out of the success of Idol …
Axed: Britannia High
We all knew from just ten minutes, this was way more S Club Seven than Fame.
Britannia High has been axed in the UK after just one series of nine episodes.
ITV1 has decided to discontinue the musical drama, which failed to be a ratings success for the channel.
The show, which cost £2 million to produce, was created by Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene Phillips and Take That singer Gary Barlow.
“We thought Britannia High would be an all-singing, all-dancing success – especially having the top names in dance and music on board,” a …
Returning: Britannia High
Sometimes when shows are pulled they actually find their way back to screen elsewhere (case in point: America’s Next Top Model, Taken Out).
Seven has a fairly good track record of finding a slot for pulled programmes further down the track.
Britannia High which was dropped after just one episode in December, will return on Saturday arvos at 12pm from January 31st.
The UK drama is something of a lightweight Fame and features Australia’s Adam Garcia and Mitch Hewer from Skins. Some of the songs are by Gary Barlow and Guy Chambers (if you …
Back to Kelsey Grammer
Blame the financial meltdown for this pitch? Kelsey Grammer is taking another shot at a network comedy in which he stars as as a corporate tycoon who reconnects with his family after being downsized out of his powerful job.
ABC has given a pilot commitment to a half-hour, multicam comedy from Everybody Loves Raymond writer Tucker Cawley.
Last year Back to You failed to fire on the FOX Network, which was largely cited as th4e wrong home for the vehicle. Grammer also suffered a minor heart attack in 2008.
This new project comes just …
Recycling washed up teen idols…
Uh oh. You know television has hit rock bottom when former teen idols are producing shows about other washed up idols.
But that’s what Scott Baio (Happy Days) and Jason Hervey (The Wonder Years) are up to with their latest show for VH1 in the US: Confessions of a Teen Idol.
And they’ve managed to con seven one-time stars into living in a house, reminiscing on fame and how they managed to flunk out: Christopher Atkins (The Blue Lagoon), David Chokachi (Baywatch), Billy Hufsey (Fame), Jeremy Jackson (Baywatch), Eric Nies (MTV’s …
Camp as Christmas
Britannia High premieres tomorrow night on Seven, and if the first episode is anything to go by, it’s Britain’s own attempt at a High School Musical.
Sadly, it doesn’t have any of the edge of Fame, the hit 1980s movie, which spawned a successful television movie. That tale is also set to have a remake with Kelsey Grammer, Bebe Neuwirth and, in a return appearance, Debbie Allen.
Brittania High from ITV, owes more to SClub7 than it does to American musicals. It’s high on cheesy songs, many written by Take That’s Gary Barlow, …
