Exit Hardy, as another columnist switches off
Just days after the final television column from Catherine Deveny, now The Age’s wildly popular Marieke Hardy bids farewell to the Green Guide.
Editor Nicole Brady cites Hardy’s other commitments to writing in 2010 as being behind the move. Hardy, who writes for Packed to the Rafters and appears on First Tuesday Book Club also has her own new series coming to the ABC, Like a Virgin.

Online to drive rebranded ABC Arts
ABC TV has revealed its overhaul of Arts programming with the announcement of a slew of new titles, a ‘digital Arts Gateway’ website and the rebranding of Sunday Arts to a half hour format to be known as Art Nation.
The move follows continued speculation the long-running Sunday afternoon show would indeed be trimmed with content shifted online.

Sunday Arts set for cuts?

As per recent rumours, the ABC is expected to announce tonight its changes to its Arts programming.
The Australian notes that Director of ABC Television, Kim Dalton, will make an announcement tonight at a two-day Sydney conference, aptly titled Revealing the Arts, jointly presented by the ABC and the Australia Council for the Arts.
Many anticipate significant changes to Sunday Arts will see it slashed from its one-hour programme, with content moving online. Sunday Arts last week rated a slight 75,000 viewers.

Are you smarter than a junior Einstein?
ABC1 will air a special episode of its quiet achiever, The Einstein Factor, with their first Junior Special for 2009. And on this show they are all under the age of 12.
Three competing contestants will tackle specialised topics.
The contestants are Sydney’s Nakita Dass with her knowledge of Barack Obama, fellow New South Wales contestant, India Brown has a passion for Egyptian pharaohs and Townsville’s Elliot Brenchley who loves AC/DC.
Helping them out are Dr Barry Jones and Stephen Hall and First Tuesday Book Club host Jennifer Byrne.

ABC jumps into summer
The ABC has announced its summer programming highlights under the banner “FesTiVal of Entertainment.”
From November 16 until January 27, it has lined up a host of dramas, specials, documentaries, music events, movies and more. Culled from Australian and international broadcasting, most are first-run and there are some repeats of old favourites too.

ABC redundancies looming
The ABC is set to trim up to 35 television editorial staff on programs such as Catalyst, Compass, Sunday Arts, First Tuesday Book Club, Media Watch and Collectors.
According to a email leaked to Crikey.com the changes follow a Production Review in March by Boston Consulting.
In the email, ABC director of television Kim Dalton said “There will be a number of potential redundancies within the TV Division.” Programs have been commissioned adopting a more efficient and effective production methodology, with savings to be re-directed into generating further content.
