GO! missed ratings deadline

Nine was so hush-hush on plans for its new digital channel GO! that it didn’t give OzTAM enough notice of its launch date.

As a result ratings will not emerge until Sunday August 23.

OzTAM chief Kate Inglis-Clark said Nine had failed to give the required notice for its August 9 launch.

“We just put the systems in place,” Inglis-Clark told The Australian. “It’s just timing. They had to give eight weeks’ notice.”

By that reckoning Nine must have told OzTAM its plans on or abouts June 28th.

In this most confidential of industries, it didn’t …

Australia gets to GO!

When the new series of Wipeout airs tonight at 6:30pm, Australia will officially have another new channel.

GO! is Nine’s new digital channel aimed fair and square at eyeballs between the ages of 14-39 years old. With titles including Survivor, Gossip Girl, Fringe, Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles, Moonlight and TMZ, there are certainly some alluring shows on offer. Compared to 20 to 1, Australia’s Perfect Couple and Commercial Breakdown Adults Only, GO! is practically worthy of an Emmy.

“Survivors ready? GO!”

From today GO! begins its signal on digital televisions, ahead of its ’soft-launch’ on Sunday night with an array of tasty titles.

TV Tonight spoke to Les Sampson, Nine’s Network Director of Multichannels about its programming.

GO! is structured similar to a subscription TV channel with ‘block’ programming from 3:30pm – 12am, which is repeated again the next day. The SD channel has been carefully programmed so as not to cannibalise Nine and to skew towards younger demographics.

“The model is designed so that we get maximum use of the available audience,” says Sampson.

AFL fans in Sydney and Brissy may have felt left out this week, Footy Classified didn’t air on 9HD. With GO! coming on Sunday the channel is now simulcasting Nine. That left ‘northern’ fans of Aussie rules out of the loop.

From next Monday the show is back on Nine in those cities at 12 am (Tuesday).

As for the AFL Footy Show on Thursdays, it will remain in its later slot in Sydney and Brisbane, just as the NRL version plays late in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

9HD makes way for GO!
