No risk for 20-TEN

A year ago when TEN unveiled its programming for 2009 it brazenly shocked the nation when it said Big Brother would be replaced by a cooking show. And it promised other local titles including Talkin’ ’Bout Your Generation, Guerilla Gardeners, Bondi Vet and even some that never eventuated: Australia’s Hidden Genius and Undercover Boss.

Unveiling its 2010 titles last night in Melbourne, TEN programmer David Mott played it both safe and sure, only promising one new local title, the Junior Masterchef spin-off. …

Bob Hawke consults on TEN telemovie

Former Prime Minister Bob Hawke has been involved as a consultant on the new Channel TEN telemovie Hawke, currently filming in Melbourne.

The telemovie will touch upon Hawke’s alcoholism and womanising.

“It’s there, there’s no point in it not being there,” Roxburgh told the Herald Sun. “But it’s not there to the detriment of other elements of his nature.

“I began this (research process) by reading thousands of bits …

Network manoeuvres and the art of programming

In the second of a 2-part interview with TEN’s programmer, David Mott admits to apprehensions with his commissioning of MasterChef Australia. The apathy shown to the idea when it was announced was enough to make him question his decision. Thankfully for everyone, it was a move that has paid off enormously.

Mott says the industry was cynical, and so was the public.

“We were concerned about Masterchef, and many of your (TV Tonight) forums were quite critical when we commissioned it. It was an interesting read at the time. It made us …

TEN to film Bob Hawke telemovie

Channel TEN will soon commence production on a telemovie centered around Bob Hawke, simply titled Hawke.

Hawke was Australia’s longest serving Labor Prime Minister from 1983 – 1991, when he was eventually de-throned by his Treasurer, Paul Keating. Hawke himself toppled Malcolm Fraser, who was a lead character in TEN’s most acclaimed political drama, The Dismissal, produced by Kennedy Miller in 1983.

If this is half as good as that it should make for terrific television.

No cast are yet announced for the project, which begins shooting in Melbourne in August.

TEN is also filming …
