Leaders debate: Guide
These days everything old is new again: Hey Hey, The Block, Bert at the Logies and now “The Worm.”
Nine will return “the worm” for the live televised debate between Kevin Rudd and Tony Abbott on their proposed healthcare reforms tomorrow.
Nine will screen it from 12.25pm AEDT with Tracy Grimshaw at a studio audience made up of 100 non-committed voters giving their verdict afterwards plus expert analysis from Laurie Oakes.
Meanwhile Seven News will present a live broadcast hosted by Chris Bath. Seven’s coverage will include expert analysis and feature live reactions to …
Ossie & Jackie…. not just yet.
Last week there was speculation that Daryl Somers was wooing Ernie Carroll (aka Ossie Ostrich) and Jackie MacDonald back to Hey Hey it’s Saturday.
Today it sounds like it’s a long shot.
“I’ve spoken to Ernie, but haven’t put any pressure on him,” Somers told the Sunday Telegraph.
“I said to him, ‘We’d love you to be part of it, but it’s your call as to what you’d like to do.’
He acknowledges putting in one call to MacDonald to try and entice her back, but luring the reclusive Queenslander is no mean feat.
“I would …
Dicko lines up for Hey Hey
Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson will appear on the new season of Hey Hey it’s Saturday in place of Molly Meldrum.
Meldrum is unable to appear due to his contract with Seven / Foxtel.
While the Australian Idol judge will appear on the first episode, it seems no deal is yet done.
I hope they make the most of this and pepper his segment with those Marcia Hines grabs, “Right on Daryl & Ossie” and “This show is deep.”
The Daily Telegraph notes Daryl Somers is believed to have successfully lured back Ernie Carroll as Ossie Ostrich, …
Ossie and Jackie back to Hey Hey?
Hey Hey its Saturday will return in April, according to today’s Herald Sun.
With auditions getting underway starting next weekend, production is ramping up on the returning show, despite the fact Nine has still not officially revealed just how many episodes are coming.
Daryl Somers also says he is trying to entice Ernie Carroll, aka Ossie Ostrich, and Jackie McDonald to be regulars again.
“It will be lovely for Ernie to be back on board,” he says.
“Ern’s retired of course -but there’s only so much gardening you can do and I know he had …
Seeing through the glass ceiling
Several prominent women working in television have spoken to The Australian about shifts in acceptance in the media, particularly for older women.
Liz Hayes (53) , Tracy Grimshaw (49), Sandra Sully (40s), Juanita Phillips (46) and Kay McGrath (53) all agreed there had been improvements in an industry which has traditionally shunned many women once they turn 40.
ABC Sydney newsreader Juanita Phillips said, “I can honestly say there’s been a big change in the industry and it’s been forced by public opinion.
“The world’s a different place and you only have to …
After Easter, it’s war.
It’s hard to believe, but we’re only three and a half weeks away from non-ratings again.
Yep, two weeks of Easter non-ratings begin on March 28th and end on April 10th. It barely feels like the television year has begun, and certainly with the Olympics it hasn’t been much of a level playing field.
Between now and then Nine is rolling out Top Gear, V and Survivor while Seven and TEN are by and large staying the course with shows already unveiled.
From April 11th the ball game changes. That’s when networks have a …
Dannii returns to AGT, Brian McFadden imminent.
Talk has ramped up on the two judging chairs beside Kyle Sandilands on Australia’s Got Talent.
The Sunday Telegraph reports on the return of the expectant Dannii Minogue, noting a Seven spokesperson confirmed her imminent signing.
Meanwhile media has tipped Brian McFadden to indeed win the third seat on the judging panel.
Last Thursday, entertainment reporter Peter Ford confirmed his role on Radio 3AW despite Seven declining to comment. Today the Sydney Morning Herald adds fuel to the fire, claiming he is in negotiations with the network. Both claims follow previous speculation that …
Denise Drysdale on her terms
She’s loved far and wide as a veteran performer who is unequivocally Australian, and as a performer whose honesty is downright endearing.
Denise Drysdale returns to daily television as the voice of experience on TEN’s new morning show The Circle.
‘Ding Dong’, as she is affectionately known, is synonymous with morning TV, having co-hosted In Melbourne Today / In Sydney Today (later retitled as Ernie and Denise) for Nine and three years fronting Denise for Seven. That’s on top of her extensive television career notable for In Melbourne Tonight, The Ernie Sigley …
Got Talent, got McFadden?
Another hint today that Red Symons might be exiting Australia’s Got Talent and returning to Hey Hey its Saturday.
Both the Herald Sun and Daily Telegraph claim Symons could be departing the talent show, in favour of his former variety show at Nine.
That would leave a vacancy -or two of Tom Burlinson is not asked to return.
Kyle Sandilands and his pal Brian McFadden are two names believed to be in contention. On the safe list is Dannii Minogue, who ironically replaced Sandilands and Jackie-O on radio when they were pulled off air …
Talent shows: talk or touchdown?
Seems everyone is talking about talent shows lately. Will Australian Idol return? Who’s judging on Australia’s Got Talent? Should The X Factor make a return?
On the weekend there was speculation Kyle Sandilands could be headed for Australia’s Got Talent. News Limited newspapers quoted the former Idol judge’s manager as saying all three commercial networks were courting him.
“And some of the shows he’s looking at might surprise people. We’re talking to all the commercial networks — this year will show that there’s life beyond Australian Idol — or perhaps even in something …
Girl talk set for TEN’s new Circle
Denise Drysdale, Chrissie Swan, Yumi Stynes and Gorgi Coghlan will front TEN’s new morning show, The Circle.
The weekday show will air live at 10-12am weekdays following a one hour news service, beginning Tuesday February 9th.
As first revealed by TV Tonight in early December, the female panel show is being produced by former Hey Hey its Saturday producer, Pam Barnes.
Filmed in front of a studio audience, The Circle will feature a fifth guest panellist will join the 4 women each day. The show will incorporate email, Skype, live crosses, studio audience …
Dannii back for AGT
Dannii Minogue will return as one of the three judges for the fourth season of Australia’s Got Talent, claims the Daily Telegraph.
Host Grant Denyer is also a lock-on.
Red Symons and Tom Burlinson are ‘expected’ to be back, notes the newspaper. Symons’ return would no doubt preclude him from returning to Hey Hey it’s Saturday -unless, miraculously, both series happen to air back to back?
The Seven show is being primed for March, which will be an ultra-fast audition process, given the network has only just announced a call for acts. The show …
