Hungry Beast: March 17
Next week’s Hungry Beast meets Zoe and Natalie, two Australians born as Intersex -with both male and female physical attributes.
Last year, South African runner Caster Semenya made world headlines following questions as to whether she was a man or a woman.
Zoe Brain, a 51 year old aerospace engineer, was born male but at the age of 47 her body spontaneously changed to female over the course of three months. “My child got a front row seat to something that has probably only happened to less than 100 people on the …
Hungry Beast meets Avatar
A deleted scene from Avatar? Not quite. But it’s a pretty good likeness from the folk at Hungry Beast.
Tonight the show theorises what the sequel to the blockbuster might look like.
It airs 9pm on ABC1.
Hungry Beast on ‘gay conversion’
Ahead of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras this weekend, the ABC’s Hungry Beast turns its attention to the question of “gay conversion”: is it possible?
Reporter Monique Schafter speaks to three same-sex attracted men whose Christian beliefs led them to attempt to reorient their sexual compasses through various ‘gay conversion’ techniques. One claims to have succeeded while another had an affair with one of his program team leaders.
Haydn, 29, is a devout Christian who admits to still having a sexual attraction to men despite being married with two children and …
Hungry Beast finds 80% favour internet filter
80% of Australians are in favour of the Federal Government’s proposed mandatory internet filter according to a new nationwide telephone poll commissioned by Hungry Beast.
The ABC show returns tonight and tackles the subject of the proposed internet filter.
Last week McNair Ingenuity Research asked a range of questions about issues relating to the proposed internet filter to 1,000 people. All states, territories and demographics were represented in the survey.
But the Hungry Beast survey also found that 91% of Australians were in favour of making public the list of websites that would be …
Beastly behaviour
After their sneaky fake Press Release from the fictional Levitt Institute fooled media last year, the Hungry Beast team are promising to behave themselves this year. Sort of.
Their fake survey results on supposedly-gullible cities made news on numerous radio, television and print media.
Host Dan Ilic tells TV Tonight there are no plans to pull another stunt like that this season.
“Though I say that and I’m sure your readers will see it and say ‘Yeah, sure you’re not,” he says.
More significantly, since pulling that swifty, he hears other media now have their …
2010 Logies: Who didn’t make the cut already?
Sarah Wilson was Presenter on the highest rating show in 2009 -but it wasn’t enough to land her on the shortlist for 2010 Logie Nominations.
The Masterchef host is now out of the race for Best Presenter and Gold Logie before the race even begins. But she is in good company.
Yesterday’s list of possible contenders published by TV Week again utilised a voting system it has employed in recent years: an individual numerical code for each actor, actress and presenter as a way of facilitating the results. It contrasts with a historical …
Leaner, meaner Hungry Beast.
The ABC has announced Nick Hayden (pictured), Monique Schafter, Dan Ilic and Kirsten Drysdale will take the hosting seat on the second season of Hungry Beast.
The changes follow the show’s debut season last year, in which 7 hosts fronted the show. Others amongst the 19 young recruits also appeared on screen.
Now amongst its fine-tuning, the show will see a slimmed down presenting team, but all 19 will continue to create stories for the show and website as well as reporting in stories.
Last year’s fake story about a ‘gullibility report’ …
TV Tonight turns 3!
Today this site notches up its third birthday.
In 2007 when I first started this blog it was to complement the TV commentary I was already doing in various forms on radio, print and online. At the time Australian television sites on the internet were largely confined to messageboards, Guides and fansites. When the site launched there were a handful of visitors who welcomed the news, the updates and answers to TV questions.
Three years on the site has published over 9,700 stories and now pulls in up to one million hits a …

Returning: Hungry Beast
Hungry Beast will return to same ABC timeslot in February, but not without some changes.
The fledgling ABC series has been guaranteed another ten episodes but will slim down its on air presenting team to just four of its young faces. The lucky four will be revealed in the new year.
Others from the show’s 19 recruits may still appear from time to time in various stories.

ABC News up in summer
For the third night in a row, ABC News has won the 7:00 slot.
On Tuesday, following the Liberal Party leadership spill, it reached 1.17m. It again won last night with 1.05m well ahead of Australia’s Funniest Home Videos on 790,000, How I Met Your Mother on 753,000 and The 7PM Project on 714,000 -at least TEN is now holding its own against commercial rivals.
Summer figures continue to remain modest, with Seven News the night’s top show on 1.25m.
But it was Nine’s share that delivered with a very strong 31.0% thanks to …
