CSI: NY snubs Nat Bass audition
Some Aussie actors have been lucky enough to come from near-obscurity to landing US television roles, and others who are big fish in our relatively small industry have learned there are no easy ways to open doors in America.

The buzz on new American shows is all being directed towards cable shows Nurse Jackie and Hung right now. Each series has humor, drama and emotional moments.
Nurse Jackie features Sopranos actress Edie Falco as a no-fuss emergency room nurse. The premiere was Showtime’s most-successful premiere ever and the network immediately picked up the series for a second season. At just 30 minutes it follows the recent success of In Treatment’s slimmer format.

Mad Men, 30 Rock, Brothers and Sisters, John Adams and In Treatment feature prominently in the 2009 Golden Globe nominations.

Creative Arts Emmy winners
In the lead up to the PrimeTime Emmy Awards next week, the US TV industry has just handed out its Creative Arts Emmy Awards, mostly honouring achievements in categories like makeup, costumes, sound editing and art direction.
The wins were dominated by HBO’s historical miniseries John Adams, about the second US president, with eight awards. Mad Men was the second most celebrated program of the night, and the number one series, with four awards. The wins will firm their place in next week’s big awards.
