Wentworth breaks out on SVU
That episode of Law & Order: SVU featuring former Prison Break star Wentworth Miller kicks off the new season tonight on TEN.

SVU producer: Chris Meloni not leaving
So is Christopher Meloni staying put or planning to leave SVU?
According to a Courier Mail story on Saturday, he’s leaving at the end of next season: “One of TV’s best-loved crime fighting couples will part ways within the year with Chris Meloni confirming he would walk away from the role of Detective Elliot Stabler after season 12 of Law & Order SVU.”
But according to Law & Order: SVU executive produce Neal Baer, Meloni is staying put.

Chris Meloni eyes SVU exit
The Courier Mail appears to have a bit of a scoop with Christopher Meloni confirming he will walk away from the role of Detective Elliot Stabler after season 12 of Law & Order: SVU.
The show is currently in its 11th season on NBC.
“I think 12 years is enough, a good number,” Meloni told The Courier-Mail recently.
“The writers will have fertile ground to figure out how to arc him (Elliot) out to another place – whether it’s this world or the next.”

Renewals: NCIS: LA, The Good Wife
Good news for TEN with CBS renewing both NCIS: Los Angeles and The Good Wife.
“Two great new series, fronted by talented stars on one big night of television,” said Nina Tassler, president of CBS Entertainment. “We’re proud of these shows and what they’ve accomplished on Tuesday night.”
They will add to TEN’s new slate which has already seen Glee and Modern Family renewed.
Both NCIS: Los Angeles and The Good Wife, featuring Julianna Margulies, have enjoyed healthy ratings in the US.
Meanwhile, NBC has announced its replacements for the early-March, 10pm post-Jay Leno schedule …
Creative Arts Emmy Awards: Winners
Winners at the 2009 Creative Arts Emmy Awards hosted by Kathy Griffin on the weekend saw accolades going to Generation Kill, Grey Gardens, American Idol, Pushing Daises and Little Dorrit.
Tina Fey was named best guest actress in a comedy series for her impersonation of Gov. Sarah Palin., Ellen Burstyn and Michael J. Fox, were honored for their guest stints on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Rescue Me respectively.
South Park beat The Simpsons, although Dan Castellaneta won a voiceover award.
And good to see a win for the opening titles …

While the country held its breath on a $100m lotto, networks watched as their numbers stacked up in a routine order for Week 27. It followed two weeks of ratings upsets.
Seven won the week with 27.6% ahead of Nine’s 25.4% and TEN’s 24.8%. The ABC had 16.8% and SBS 5.4% as supplementaries.
Yet again TEN won three key demos 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54.

TEN has now announced a special to go to air tonight (Wednesday) at 8pm, Michael Jackson: Picking Up The Pieces.
The show promises: “While millions of people around the world continue to pay their respects to Michael Jackson after his sudden passing; this special presentation takes a look at both his legacy as the King of Pop and the circumstances surrounding his mysterious death.”

Carol Burnett guest stars in SVU
Nostalgic TV fans should look out tonight for an appearance by veteran comedienne Carol Burnett in Law & Order: SVU.
Burnett takes on a dramatic role in a plot which sees a single murder suddenly turn into a scene with three bodies, leaving Benson and Stabler to work with a strip club owner to find a murderer whose motive may be more about righteousness than perversity.

Hargitay and Meloni sign with SVU
Finally an outcome…. actors Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni have finalised negotiations with to return to Law & Order: SVU for its 11th season.
Thank goodness for that. It just wouldn’t have been the same without Olivia and Elliot.
The two actors had been with a mexican standoff with producers for a pay hike, and it had been dragging on for weeks. NBC even called their bluff by renewing the procedural, with or without the two on board.

Ratings winners upstaged by Nine stoush
Controversy continued to dominate television for the second week in a row, this time as a public stoush between two Nine personalities reached fever pitch. While it saw audiences flock to the coverage, it wasn’t enough to stop Seven from winning the week with a routine week of strong programming. Yet it was TEN that continued significant gains.
Seven won Week 24 with 27.6% ahead of Nine’s 25.5% and TEN’s 24.5%. The ABC had 17.4% and SBS 5.0%.

Law & Order in record-tying renewal
Law & Order has been renewed by NBC for its 20th season which matches the 20 year run of Gunsmoke, according to the Hollywood Reporter. An official announcement is expected next week.
The order is believed to be for 16 episodes.
This is despite some slipping in the ratings in recent seasons
Creator Dick Wolf had been open about his desire to tie Gunsmoke for the longest-running drama series on US television.
Its current cast includes Jeremy Sisto, Anthony Anderson, Sam Waterston, S. Epatha Merkerson, Alana De La Garza and Linus Roache.
