Kim Raver joins Grey’s Anatomy roster
Former 24 and Lipstick Jungle star Kim Raver, who has had a recurring role in the latest series of Grey’s Anatomy, will become a permanent fixture on the medical series.
Raver made her debut in the ninth episode of the show’s current sixth season, playing a new cardio surgeon brought in by her former Army colleague Owen (Kevin McKidd). In the hotbed of Seattle Grace emotions, she quickly stirred things up by professing her feelings for Owen, complicating life between him and Christina (Sandra Oh).
Seven is yet to announce an airdate for …
Airdate: The Middle
New sitcom The Middle begins next Monday night on Nine, created by Eileen Heisler (Murphy Brown, How I Met Your Mother, Lipstick Jungle).
The show features Patricia Heaton (Everybody Loves Raymond, Back to You) as Frankie Heck, a middle-class, Midwestern mother of three, married to Mike Heck (Neil Flynn).
Mother of three, Frankie has a job selling cars at the town’s only surviving car dealership while her husband is a manager at the local quarry. In between juggling shifts and picking up fast food dinners eaten in front of the TV, Frankie …
The cancelled list
As the US Fall Season nears it’s time to take stock of the shows in the US that are not moving forward (including two Aussie adaptations).
Whilst many of us are up to speed on most of these, sometimes one or two escape out attention, and others kinda never get cancelled but remain in permanent hiatus.
For the record here is the list of those that are no more:
ABC has cancelled Cupid, Dirty Sexy Money, Eli Stone, In the Motherhood, Kyle XY, Life on Mars, Pushing Daisies, Samantha Who, Surviving Suburbia, and The …
Audiences flock to quality
This week the ABC delivered commercial networks a bit of a lesson as US cable series United States of Tara swooped with 1.27m viewers in a 9:30pm timeslot. It highlighted the fact that audiences will flock to supposedly niche stories, if they are accessible. Even subscription television had passed on this one, but the ABC was able to win the slot with Toni Collette.
Once again, however, it was Seven’s week, scoring a very strong 29.3% over Nine’s 24.3% and TEN’s 22.4%. The ABC had 17.6% and SBS 6.3%.
Seven won 18-49 and …
Mid year ratings: It’s Seven and TEN
Week 28 is officially the half-way mark of the survey year. And what a week it turned out to be.
In a result symbolic of the year so far, Seven won every night except one, TEN finished second and Nine was relegated to third. And in a move sure to be giving commercial networks a headache, SBS also had its best week of the year.
Seven won with 27.5% ahead of TEN’s 23.1% and Nine’s 23.0%. The ABC had 16.1% and SBS 10.4%.
TEN won 16-39 and 18-49 while Seven snatched 25-54 demos. Last …
Returning: Gavin & Stacey
Seven will remove factual show Surgery Saved My Life, which aired to 487,000 viewers last night after next week.
From Tuesday July 21st it replaces it with the New Zealand version of 10 Years Younger in 10 Days at 10:30pm.
Wonder if we’ll see rural contestants from Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahu on that one?
More enticingly is the return (or even premiere) of UK dramedy Gavin & Stacey. Seven played one episode of this in February in Sydney and Brisbane, so this will be a premiere for Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth viewers.
It follows featuring Mathew Horne …
Seven programming update
A number of changes, mostly minor, to Seven programming in coming weeks.
Triple Zero Heroes will air place of The Zoo at 7:30pm Tuesday July 7. Narrated by John Waters, this is labelled as a “special episode” rather than a “series return.”
It is followed by the finale of Find my Family. At 10:30pm, is a series return of Surgery Saved My Life, bumping Lipstick Jungle back to 11:30pm.
On Wednesday July 8th Seven has a TBA from 7:30 – 9pm, which pushes Criminal Minds finale to 9pm and My Name is Earl to …
Returning: Lipstick Jungle
A surprising addition to Seven programming is the return of Lipstick Jungle early next month.
It’s back at 10:30pm from Tuesday May 5th with the episode “Pandora’s Box,” one of thirteen final episodes of the series starring Brooke Shields, Kim Raver and Lindsay Price.
It is also an episode in which Mary Tyler Moore appears as the mother of Shields.
While it lasted longer than Cashmere Mafia, the show was officially cancelled in March.
Lipstick Jungle: not so axed?
Hold the phone. Brooke Shields says Lipstick Jungle hasn’t been scrapped after all.
“They thought that because My Own Worst Enemy has been shut down that the same thing had happened to us, and it’s not true,” she has said.
“They’re not breaking down the sets,” she added. “We’re still working. We still have more to do, so it’s erroneously presented that we’ve been canceled, thank God.
“Our bosses are saying, ‘You’re not cancelled, don’t worry. We’re just trying to figure out how to make this make sense.’”
Shields said fans have already sent in …
Axed: Lipstick Jungle, Worst Enemy, MadTV
They must be having quite a day of it in LA. The axe has just fallen on three shows: Lipstick Jungle, My Own Worst Enemy and MadTV.
NBC’s My Own Worst Enemy starred Christian Slater as a secret agent who knew nothing of his alias-self, thanks to an implanted chip that could see him switch from one role to another. It was one of the network’s big new hopes for the Fall season, and acquired by the Seven Network. There will be nine episodes in total, potentially allowing a summer scheduling by …
A new beautiful Sunday?
Seven unveiled some of its 2009 titles to advertisers this week, including Sunday Night, a new Sunday evening current affairs programme. The last time Seven went anywhere near this territory was arguably Witness / The Times.
Certainly for a network that boasts its dominance in News and Current Affairs it is lacking a tough, credible evening format. TEN is the only other free to air network without an equivalent.
Looking at the success of Nine’s perennial 60 Minutes it isn’t hard to see why the network is looking for a piece of the …
Classic stars for Emmy’s big night
More presenters have been confirmed for the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards including Glenn Close, Sally Field, Alec Baldwin, Sandra Oh and Ricky Gervais.
And there are “classic” television stars set to shine with both Mary Tyler Moore and Betty White to present an award together. There had previously been talk of the entire cast from her golden age sitcom reuniting. ‘MTM’ is currently part of the cast of Lipstick Jungle.
Also presenting together are Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart.
Other presenters include Patrick Dempsey, Craig Ferguson, Brooke Shields and Martin Sheen. Winners from the Creative Arts …
