Renewed: Supernatural, Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, 90210, ANTM
The CW Network has been busy giving renewals to four of its dramas and one reality series as Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, 90210, and America’s Next Top Model are given early pick-ups in the US.
But left hanging in the balance are Smallville, Melrose Place, One Tree Hill and Life Unexpected.
The Vampire Diaries is the youth network’s most-watched show, averaging 4.6 million viewers and the network’s number one show among adults 18-34.
The CW also calls Supernatural fans “one of the most loyal audiences of any show on television and does …
Melrose Place on TEN’s property
Sitting quietly on TEN’s official website as one of its acquisition titles is the new season of Melrose Place.
The remake for the CW Network has been screening in the US since September. Reviews have been underwhelming, and figures have slipped from 2.27m viewers to 1.26m.
According to TVByTheNumbers, “Melrose Place will certainly be canceled at the end of the season.”
Despite having Heather Locklear guest star on the show, she wasn’t able to plug its sinking down its own pool plughole. How well we all remember the folly that was 90210 …
TV Tonight Awards 2009: The year of Shaun Micallef
The votes are in.
Readers have spoken on their best and worst television for 2009 in the third annual TV Tonight Awards.
The winners: Shaun Micallef, MasterChef and Packed to the Rafters.
Over 1000 surveys were completed this year, and there were some definite trends. Some choices were clear decisions, others were tight races.
Several “winners” were also “losers” elsewhere, showing a divided audience, and a number of populist shows proved their mettle by staying ahead of underdogs.
Shaun Micallef won both Favourite Male and Most Underrated Performer, while Talkin’ ‘Bout Your …

Heather Locklear barely boosts Melrose
This isn’t good news or the future of Melrose Place’s revival on The CW network.
Heather Locklear’s appearance only boosted the show a disappointing 14% this week, which was still 30% down from its 90210 lead-in. It took just 1.5m viewers.
This week she had some comments to make about how much was riding on her shouders.
“Absolutely, this is on my mind, but hopefully my going there will bring some attention and make people watch because it’s not just about watching Amanda, it’s about bringing awareness to the show,” she said.
“It’s not …
Charlie’s Angels nears new mission
America continues to look to the past for its future with the ABC Network is said to be close to greenlighting a new version of Charlie’s Angels.
The update will be helmed by Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles’ Josh Friedman, and Leonard Goldberg, who produced the original series with Aaron Spelling in 1976, plus Drew Barrymore.
Barrymore also featured in the 2000 feature film adaptation.
The new Angels is expected to be geared toward a new generation while paying homage to the past. Maybe Ian Thorpe can play the executive?
The series made news recently …
Heather Locklear on Melrose: trailer
It’s not long until ‘Amanda Woodward’ makes her return to Melrose Place on The CW in the US.
TEN hasn’t indicated if the series is coming in 2010, no doubt wanting not to get slugged like it did by fastracking 90210 last year.
Maybe it will be on its list for summer.
Still, even the US isn’t convinced this is a stayer yet. There’s a lot riding on Ms. Locklear to help lift this one.
Here’s a clip, and there’s a second one here. …
Melrose: Actor axe wasn’t planned.
Colin Egglesfield, who is one of the two actors being dropped from Melrose Place was slated to be in 10 of the 13 first episodes. But he says he had a multiyear contract on the CW drama.
Despite assurances by producers they had always planned his exit, now Egglesfield says it was a network decision and blames the move on ratings.
“I got the call this morning from our producers, Todd [Slavkin] and Darren [Swimmer],” he told EOnline. “They were really saddened, and you could tell it was difficult for them to break …
Melrose dumps 2 cast members
Possible Spoilers: Leaving so soon?
Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Colin Egglesfield are moving out of Melrose Place.
Simpson-Wentz’s Violet and Egglesfield’s Auggie have been part of the murder mystery involving Sydney (Laura Leighton), whose death kicked off the season and who’s been seen in flashbacks. That mystery is being wrapped up in December.
In addition to the return of Heather Locklear’s Amanda, several new characters will be introduced and the show will take on a lighter, more fun vibe.
Producer Todd Slavkin said, “We always knew that this murder mystery would end in episode 12. And …
Pick-ups for Vampire Diaries, Melrose Place.
More greenlighting in the US for new dramas, this time from the CW Network.
The Vampire Diaries has won a full season, although Melrose Place have been given five additional episodes, instead of the usual nine.
Vampire Diaries gave the channel its biggest premiere and has remained a consistent performer for the youth-oriented network. In Australia it is currently airing on GO! on Monday nights, last week averaging 140,000.
Melrose Place, which TEN owns the rights to in Australia, has had a trickier debut in the US. On the back of disappointing reviews it …
