Airdate: The Middle

New sitcom The Middle begins next Monday night on Nine, created by Eileen Heisler (Murphy Brown, How I Met Your Mother, Lipstick Jungle).

The show features Patricia Heaton (Everybody Loves Raymond, Back to You) as Frankie Heck, a middle-class, Midwestern mother of three, married to Mike Heck (Neil Flynn).

The former cast of Murphy Brown, Candice Bergen, Charles Kimbrough, Faith Ford, Joe Regalbuto and Grant Shaud recently sat down to chat with Harry Smith from CBS’ The Early Show.

The five reminisced about the hit sitcom which ran for ten years and 247 episodes.

Bergen says she wasn’t first choice for the series, which was Heather Locklear, but creator Diane English went in to bat for her.

7TWO to launch November 1st

Channel Seven has unveiled its free-to-air digital channel 7TWO, a broad entertainment channel set to launch on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at 12noon on Channel 72.

Channel Seven’s Director of Programming and Production Tim Worner said, “I am pleased to announce that 7TWO will be the new home for premiere episodes of our international hits including J.J Abrams’ Lost, Ugly Betty, Heroes and 24,” said Worner.

111 Hits to join Austar

Austar subscribers will be pleased to hear that 111 Hits is to join the channel line-up from March 1st.

Since the channel launched on November 1st regional viewers have been none too happy that they have missed out on the channel, which screens mostly “classic television” including Alf, Alias, Ally McBeal, Baywatch, Dharma & Greg, ER, Murphy Brown, Northern Exposure, Suddenly Susan, The Wonder Years, Veronica’s Closet and Without a Trace.

111 HITS, which launches on November 1st will be aimed squarely at the lucrative advertiser-friendly 25-54 demographic, as a move to compete with the new standard definition digital channels by commercial networks.

It will program US hits primarily from the Warner Bros, Disney and 20th Century Fox studios, including Friends, Will & Grace, Ally McBeal, The Wonder Years, That 70s Show, ER, Murphy Brown, Alf, Lost, 24 and Baywatch.
