ABC bumps My Place, Sleuth 101, ‘reinstates’ Collectors.
The ABC has announced two major scheduling changes, affecting My Place, Sleuth 101 and Collectors.
Collectors will be reinstated to its traditional time of 8pm Fridays from March 19th. It follows the ABC’s attempt at a 6:30 Sunday slot after the exit of The Einstein Factor. But viewers have been adamant in online forums that they preferred its Friday night slot.
Sleuth 101 which was in the Friday night slot will shift to 6:30pm Sundays from March 28th.
Meanwhile, ABC3 family drama My Place which had been replayed at 7:30pm Sundays on ABC1 has …
All the drama of Sunday
There were two locally produced dramas on television last night: one was the highly-publicised Wicked Love telemovie on Nine, the other was the ABC3 family series My Place which had its first run on ABC1 in a prime Sunday night slot.
Wicked Love: The Maria Korp Story did well with an audience of just under 1.3m winning its timeslot and pushing The Good Wife down to 902,000 on TEN. Seven’s Bones was sandwiched with a respectable 1.23m. Reviews had panned the Nine telemovie but viewers still tuned in to see the sordid …
My Place added to ABC1
Acclaimed ABC3 children’s drama My Place will have its rightful airing on ABC1 from Sunday February 28.
The sprawling Australian drama, produced by Penny Chapman, will air in the premium timeslot of 7:30pm.
Two half hour episodes will air each week.
The series, based on the book by Nadia Wheatley and Donna Rawlins, is the story of several generations of children who live in the very same spot in Australia over the course of 130 years. It opens in 2008 and moves back a decade for each episode, to 1888.
In the first week, indigenous …
So what’s been your summer gem?
The other week a journalist asked me for some quotes on how our TV summer season was faring and I pointed out that historically, the 09 / 10 season has offered an abundance of choice -at least compared to when we had just 5 channels, half of which were stuck on sport.
This year the amount of content has boomed, thanks to our extra digital channels.
But when the article appeared in print, readers hit back saying summer is still a dead zone. I got slammed. Well, it is if you stick with …
Every kid wants to be on Prank Patrol, but…
Since launching ABC3 in early December, it isn’t the pride of place drama My Place that is resonating most with the young audience, but Scotty Tweedie and his Prank Patrol Ninjas.
In the show, kids get the chance to create, build and execute the prank of a lifetime on their chosen target – a friend, sibling, or even their class.
Production company activeTV, which also produces Carols in the Domain, The Amazing Race Asia, Tropfest and the Country Music Awards of Australia, could be set for a long run with the show …
TV Tonight Awards 2009: The year of Shaun Micallef
The votes are in.
Readers have spoken on their best and worst television for 2009 in the third annual TV Tonight Awards.
The winners: Shaun Micallef, MasterChef and Packed to the Rafters.
Over 1000 surveys were completed this year, and there were some definite trends. Some choices were clear decisions, others were tight races.
Several “winners” were also “losers” elsewhere, showing a divided audience, and a number of populist shows proved their mettle by staying ahead of underdogs.
Shaun Micallef won both Favourite Male and Most Underrated Performer, while Talkin’ ‘Bout Your …
Prank Patrol ABC3’s top show
An audience of 192,000 viewers watched ABC1’s Countdown To 3 live show on Friday as the PM was joined by Cassie Davis and Short Stack. It peaked at 222,000.
At 6pm 83,000 of them migrated across to the new channel to check out Prank Patrol. Whilst ABC hasn’t released a complete breakdown of figures for its first night, it claims it peaked at 91,000 later that night with a FTA share of 49% amongst its target 5-12 year olds.
The jewel in the crown for the broadcaster, My Place, was not one …

2008-09 Production Report
Screen Australia has released the findings of its annual Production Report on the state of film and television.
Never wanting to paint a bleak picture, it manages to find optimism with a healthy state of production, if boosted by the big investment of George Miller’s Happy Feet 2 and the $100m Hollywood animation Guardians of Ga’Hoole in Sydney.
TV Tonight has taken a look at the television sector separately, and the results are still very good. While series / serials were down, mini-series (which also includes telemovies) were up.

Airdate: My Place
The new ABC TV drama series My Place is one of ABC3’s feature attractions -a new locally produced drama, depicting several generations of children who live in the very same spot over the course of 130 years.
The 13 x 30min series opens in 2008 and travels back to 1888. Based on the award winning book by Nadia Wheatley and Donna Rawlins, all of the 13 kids have a talent for some kind of trouble, each hiding up the same old fig tree, each with a story to tell.
The series …
