ONE turns 6 months

This Saturday marks 6 months to the day since Australia got its first digital commercial multichannel, ONE HD. It kicked off with an AFL match in Melbourne (pictured) and SKINS Swimming in Sydney.

To mark the anniversary, the sports channel has put together what it says is its biggest weekend of sport:

ONE to launch March 26

Network TEN has announced its 24-hour sports channel, ONE, will launch on Thursday 26 March 2009 at 7.30pm.

TEN says the opening weekend will include:
• AFL’s much anticipated first-round showdown between Richmond and Carlton will be the first sporting event to air on ONE in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, with the match to be broadcast simultaneously on ONE and TEN.
• Also on 26 March, ONE will broadcast an exclusive Swimming Australia SKINS event showcasing the Australian Swimming Team and international stars, including Olympic gold medallists Oussama Mellouli and Therese Alshammar. The SKINS …

The Boss for Super Bowl 09

The Boss has been locked in as half-time entertainment for the 2009 NFL Super Bowl, which screens on TEN from next year.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will rock it out at Tampa, Florida on February 1, 2009 (US). They follow Prince who got the gig last year and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers in 2008. TEN has previously indicated this will air live on the main TEN channel as well as on TEN-HD.

TEN has sent through some amendments for its NFL coverage beginning next week, which sees several live games played on Mondays and Tuesdays between 10am – 2pm.

These matches will include legendary teams including the Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago Bears. Always reminds me of Homer Simpson moaning about “Ohhh… the Denver Broncos?”

I also love how TEN HD goes from the rumble and tumble of NFL to Peter Everett in Ready Steady Cook!

The 2008 NFL Season Kick-Off scheduled for 8am today on TEN HD was amended by TEN late yesterday.

Instead it is replaced by Chaotic, Toasted TV and Puzzle Play.

But the good news is the game itself stays put at 9am.
