Vale: Monica Maughan
Respected actress Monica Maughan, best known for her television work in Prisoner, has died in Melbourne.
She also won an AFI and Logie award for her work in The Damnation Of Harvey McHugh, played Nana Scott to a young Graham Kennedy in The King, and appeared in numerous Australian productions including The Librarians, MDA, Blue Heelers, Crackerjack, Halifax FP, The Genie from Down Under, The Gillies Report, The Flying Doctors, Come in Spinner, Coln Carpenter, The Box, Matlock Police and Homicide.

Airdate: Stephen King’s Nightmares and Dreamscapes
Filmed in Melbourne in 2006 is the anthology series Nightmares and Dreamscapes, an eight part horror / mystery series based on short stories by Stephen King.
Already aired on Pay Television, the rather uneven series includes the stories Crouch End, Battleground, The Road Virus Heads North and Autopsy Room Four -but there are some goodies amongst them.

Melbourne Studios underperforming
Melbourne Central City Studios are again the subject of scrutiny after Victoria’s Auditor-General, Des Pearson, says their trading cash flows last financial year were ”not sufficient to meet rental, loan interest and principal obligations”.
In a report to the Victorian Parliament yesterday he said, ”The studios are assessed as having a high financial viability risk due to their current-year loses, while June 30, 2010, operating cash flow forecasts are also uncertain.

Melbourne Studios too expensive
Melbourne Central City Studios, better known as Docklands Studios, is the subject of an investigtion by the Sunday Herald Sun today.
It brands the lot a ‘white elephant.’
While it has been home to feature films including Ghost Rider, The Knowing, Charlotte’s Web and Where the Wild Things Are, it’s use of hire is way down amid renewed criticism it is too expensive. With the high Aussie dollar, it becomes even less attractive to overseas productions.
