Big Love for Željko Ivanek
Character actor Željko Ivanek makes his first appearance in tonight’s torrid episode of Big Love on SBS ONE.
Ivanek is well-known for his performances in The X Files (Roland), Homicide: Life on the Street (as prosecuting attorney Ed Danvers), Damages (Ray Fiske), Oz (Governor James Devlin), 24 (Andre Drazen), Heroes (Emile Danko), John Adams (John Dickinson) and True Blood (The Magister).
The third series of the HBO polygamy series has been its best so far, with some dynamite storylines. It surely deserves a much bigger audience.
The first series will also air on Showcase …
Top Gear loss “not the be-all and end-all”
TV Tonight continues its interviews with key executives in television. Following on from last week’s interviews with Seven, ABC, TEN and Nine, today the spotlight turns to SBS Director of Content Matt Campbell.
The last two weeks have not been without their challenges for Campbell, who learned the fate of Top Gear, a programme he had taken a punt on many years ago when no other network would touch it.
Having spent a lot of time trying to convince the BBC it should be staying at its natural home, he admits the loss …
Sneak Peek: Wentworth Miller on SVU
And here’s a peek at Wentworth Miller on the set of Law and Order: SVU.
As previously reported, Miller is a guest in the first ep of the new season, shooting once more since signing Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay on the dotted line.
Looks like he is slowly sporting a bit more of a mop now that his days of ‘incarceration (or escape)’ are over.
In other casting news, Eric McCormack (Will & Grace) will appear as a (straight) sugar daddy in the second episode of the season….
Reviews: The Philanthropist
American reviews are in for the new NBC drama, The Philanthropist, a series starring (another) British actor James Purefoy. This is a series which Seven was said to have acquired the rights to in 2008, although it only his US screens last week.
Purefoy plays billionaire Teddy Rist whose life changes when he rescues a boy during a hurricane in Nigeria. Its executive producers include Barry Levinson and Tom Fontana (Oz, Homicide: Life on the Street, St. Elsewhere), and the premiere was directed by Peter Horton, onetime heartthrob of the too, too …
Oz back to Oz
If you’ve never seen Oz (the series, not the country) you’ll get half a chance as SBS is slating it for a repeat.
However it’s not quite the whole series. It will pick up from the fourth of the sixth series.
Nevertheless this HBO series is good wherever you pick it up from. Set almost entirely in the Oswald State Correctional Facility it’s a series that doesn’t particularly date.
Oz also has quite a cast, many of whom have graduated to other shows including Lost, Desperate Housewives, Dexter, Law and Order: SVU and more.
It …
Spin-off city: Gossip Girl, NCIS & The L Word
Spin-off talk is hot in the US at the moment with three hit shows giving the thumbs up to the idea. Well, one we already knew about….
Gossip Girl’s executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage have confirmed a pilot prequel on the 1980s teen years of Lily van der Woodsen (Kelly Rutherford).
Set to air as a Gossip episode in the US in May 11 it will be tied in via flashbacks tied to the episode’s story line of Lily and her daughter Serena (Blake Lively) “wrestling with a problem.”
Unlike the original …

Fringe
Mental note to self: never, ever take a flight with screenwriter J.J. Abrams. He’s the guy who crashed Oceanic Flight 815 onto a tiny Pacific island in Lost. Now he opens his newest television drama, Fringe, with another disastrous flight.
This time a virus breaks out aboard a jet descending into Boston. Nobody survives a rapid, flesh-eating outbreak. Enter FBI agent Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv), called in to investigate as part of an interagency task force.
When her partner, and bed mate, Special Agent John Scott (Mark Valley) falls victim to the virus, …
