Returning: Private Practice

Seven will return Private Practice to air soon, coming to Tuesday nights.

It’s back at 9:30pm Tuesday March 23rd with S3E11 “Another Second Chance,” part of a crossover episode with Grey’s Anatomy which airs at 8:30pm.

Meanwhile as My Kitchen Rules heads towards its finish line Seven also has longer eps coming, starting with a 90 minute episode next Tuesday, pushing Grey’s Anatomy to 9pm.

On Monday March 22nd there are  TBAs with Brothers and Sisters locked in for 10pm instead of 9:30pm.

The return of Private Practice probably means Brothers and Sisters will resume …

Seven launches online catch-up, PLUS7

Seven today launched its online catch-up portal, PLUS7.

The site offers legal streaming of Seven shows including Grey’s Anatomy, Home and Away, FlashForward, Private Practice, Heroes, Castle, Better Homes and Gardens, Parks and Recreation and more.

As with the ABC’s iView, the site does not require a show to finish downloading before being available to start play.

The site includes “mid-roll advertising” to show advertisements mid programme, much like commercial television.

A spokesperson previously told TV Tonight they expect around 3-4 ads per show. Titles will remain online for between 7 – 28 days …

NBC considers Leno back at late nights

US media commentators are all speculating what NBC will do with The Jay Leno Show, widely perceived as a scheduling failure since it moved to the competitive 10pm timeslot. In the US, 10pm is still prime viewing where shows like Brothers and Sisters, Castle, Ugly Betty, Private Practice, Criminal Minds, The Good Wife and CSI: Miami all air.

Moving Leno to 10pm was considered the boldest programming move of the Fall Season, with Hollywood Reporter recently including his switch in a retrospective story on the decade’s biggest blunders.

NBC knew Leno’s shift …

Timeshifted ratings: What we’re watching later on

Supernatural, Private Practice, Survivor, Stargate: Universe, Californication, Bones, Cold Case, Fringe and Top Gear are the top shows we are recording and watching later, according to early figures released by OzTAM.

Since December 27 OzTAM has begun adding Timeshifted, or Consolidated, figures to its Ratings in a major change to its survey data. It tallies the programmes that are watched up to 7 days after their live airing, now known as the “Overnight” figure. Homes with OzTAM People Meters are now recognising what is watched on recording equipment including PVRs, DVRs and …

Are we there yet?

Are we there yet? Just two weeks to go until the 2009 ratings end, with a baby Rafter, a new Idol, a Celebrity MasterChef, and a first Apprentice all due. Audiences are already showing signs of switch-off as numbers diminish -either from fatigue, daylight saving, multiple entertainment choices or all three. But they are hanging on for Julie Rafter whose motherly condition ensured she was the week’s top show. And Seven again won the week.

Seven Network won with 30.1% over Nine’s 26.3% and TEN’s 19.8%. The ABC had 18.0% and SBS …

Race that tops the nation

Week 45 saw Seven launch its new digital channel 7TWO with a mix of broad entertainment offering. It addressed the Nine / GO! combo that had upstaged it in the last few months. In sheer audience figures the 2009 Melbourne Cup’s record 2.67m viewers was the week’s top story. It was even Seven’s biggest audience all year. But the real news of the week was actually a lot more humble: the government’s lifeline to Community Television. After a lengthy campaign it will begin to dual-cast on analogue and digital some time …

Returning: Private Practice

Seven will replace All Saints with a new series of US medical drama Private Practice.

The series returns to screen at 9:30pm Tuesday November 3rd.

The episode “A Death in the Family” only premiered in the US on October 1st.

Violet is rushed to the hospital unconscious and severely injured, after the violent attack from her patient Katie. Addison and Naomi fight to save her life. Meanwhile, the whereabouts and condition of Violet’s stolen baby are unknown.

Modern Family, Cougar Town & The Middle picked up

As expected ABC comedies Modern Family, Cougar Town, and The Middle have all received full seasons.

All three shows picked up are part of the network’s all-new Wednesday ‘comedy block.’

The network has had some difficulty with its new comedies recently, but these titles are outperforming the averages last year for Pushing Daisies as well as the drama Private Practice.

Modern Family will air in Australia on TEN while Cougar Town, starring Courtney Cox, is with Seven and The Middle with Nine.

No word yet for its other new shows: FlashForward, Hank, Eastwick, and The …

J.J. Abrams turns to the light side

Highly-praised writer J.J. Abrams (Lost, Fringe, Alias, Felicity, What About Brian?) will produce a half-hour comedy for the FOX Network.

The project, written by Mike Markowitz (It’s All Relative, Becker), is described as “a comedic medical show.”

And that’s not Scrubs, ok!

The untitled project will have to compete with others in the genre: Grey’s Anatomy, House, Private Practice, Trauma, Miami Trauma, Mercy, Three Rivers and Hawthorne.

And then there’s Nurse Jackie, raising the bar…

Seven programming update

A number of changes, mostly minor, to Seven programming in coming weeks.

Triple Zero Heroes will air place of The Zoo at 7:30pm Tuesday July 7. Narrated by John Waters, this is labelled as a “special episode” rather than a “series return.”

It is followed by the finale of Find my Family. At 10:30pm, is a series return of Surgery Saved My Life, bumping Lipstick Jungle back to 11:30pm.

On Wednesday July 8th Seven has a TBA from 7:30 – 9pm, which pushes Criminal Minds finale to 9pm and My Name is Earl to …

Returning: Rush

Thursday nights just got a whole lot more interesting with TEN confirming it will be the new night for Rush.

The TEN drama will return Thursday July 16 at 8.30pm.

That pits it against Trouble in Paradise and whatever Seven has in store, given Grey’s Anatomy is coming to an end soon (Seven will begin double eps after Private Practice ends).

It will also be the only Aussie made drama on the box after 7:30pm. Well… The Footy Show likes to manufacture a bit of drama but that doesn’t count…

The 8:30pm timeslot should give …
