Q & A: March 15

Tonight’s Q & A will see the battle of the columnists, as conservative columnist Miranda Devine and outspoken writer / performer (and former TV critic) Catherine Deveny join the panel.

Also on the panel are:

Waleed Aly, politics lecturer;

Bill Shorten, Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities and Children’s Services; and

Peter Dutton, Shadow Minister for Health and Ageing.

What is it about Melbourne viewers and Two and a Half Men? Last night the new episode hauled 635,000 in that city, rising to a big 1.58m viewers -and very probably assuring its place as the week’s top show. Monday night’s Q&A will feature prominent atheist and evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins on the panel.

Minister under fire, Peter Garrett will be one of the guests on Monday night’s Q & A -bound to make this episode juicy viewing.

To be filmed live (AEDT) from the Spiegeltent at Adelaide Arts Festival, there will be six guests instead of five.

Christopher Pyne, Opposition Education spokesman;
Rhoda Roberts, actor and director;
Eddie Perfect, comedian and musician;

Good News PM

The Prime Minister for Television Appearances will pop up tonight on Good News Week after he paid a visit to their last record.

It follows recent appearances on Sunrise, Q & A, Julia Gillard on Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader? and Today.

The Opposition’s Joe Hockey was recently a guest on Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation and Meet the Press.

Rudd’s appearance will go up against Malcolm Turnbull’s appearance on Q & A tonight.

Former Liberal leader Malcom Turnbull will join the Q&A panel next week in his first major media appearance since losing the leadership.

Host Tony Jones will also be joined by:

Returning: Q & A

Q&A returns in early February in its new regular timeslot, 9:35pm Mondays on ABC1.

The show, hosted by Tony Jones, has been rewarded with a mammoth 40 week run by the ABC, beginning Monday 8th February.

It kicks off the year with Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and over 200 young Australians in a live broadcast (AEDT) from Old Parliament House, now known as the new Museum of Australian Democracy.

Rudd will be questioned by an audience of 16 to 24 year olds from the House of Representatives chamber.

TV Tonight Awards 2009: The year of Shaun Micallef

The votes are in.

Readers have spoken on their best and worst television for 2009 in the third annual TV Tonight Awards.

The winners: Shaun Micallef, MasterChef and Packed to the Rafters.

Over 1000 surveys were completed this year, and there were some definite trends. Some choices were clear decisions, others were tight races.

Several “winners” were also “losers” elsewhere, showing a divided audience, and a number of populist shows proved their mettle by staying ahead of underdogs.

Race that tops the nation

Week 45 saw Seven launch its new digital channel 7TWO with a mix of broad entertainment offering. It addressed the Nine / GO! combo that had upstaged it in the last few months.
