When the Seven Network finally unveiled its new digital channel, 7TWO, last week, it sent a clear message to its rivals. It was not going niche.

7TWO to launch November 1st

Channel Seven has unveiled its free-to-air digital channel 7TWO, a broad entertainment channel set to launch on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at 12noon on Channel 72.

Channel Seven’s Director of Programming and Production Tim Worner said, “I am pleased to announce that 7TWO will be the new home for premiere episodes of our international hits including J.J Abrams’ Lost, Ugly Betty, Heroes and 24,” said Worner.

One of 2009’s most anticipated new shows begins in February on the Showcase channel: True Blood.

The gothic vampire series is created by Alan Ball (Six Feet Under, American Beauty) and stars Australia’s Ryan Kwanten and New Zealander Anna Paquin.

According to the show’s synopsis, ‘Thanks to a Japanese scientist’s invention of synthetic blood, vampires have progressed from legendary monsters to fellow citizens overnight. And while humans have been safely removed from the menu, many remain apprehensive about these creatures “coming out of the coffin.” Religious leaders and government officials around the world …

Airdate: True Blood

Fans of gothic, you wanted to know?

True Blood, the newest series developed by Alan Ball, will air next February on Showcase. Ball also created the acclaimed Six Feet Under.

The series, starring former Home and Away graduate Ryan Kwanten, and New Zealand’s Anna Paquin looks at the co-existence of vampires and humans in a fictional Louisiana town. Paquin plays a waitress “cursed” with the ability to listen in on people’s thoughts.

Despite some mixed reviews, audience numbers for the HBO series have been picking up.

It will premiere on Showcase on February 10.

Chris Lilley’s cable assault

Summer Heights High gets its US premiere on the Home Box Office (HBO) cable network on Sunday November 9th at 10:30pm. It will follow Entourage.

The promos for the ABC comedy, to air in its original form, suggest the series represents “a new learning curve.” HBO’s site has three clips showcasing Ja’mie, Jonah and Mr. G.

Chris Lilley is said to have headed stateside ahead of the launch.
