Survivors

It takes just days for the ‘European Flu’ to reach every living human being in the United Kingdom in Survivors. But it takes over a year for the show to reach an Australian television network.

For this ambitious, apocolyptic miniseries, the BBC looks to the work of writer Terry Nation, who created a series of the same name in 1975. He later published a book in which he continued his tale of a plague wiping out the UK. Now with screenwriter Adrian Hodges (Primeval) the novel has been updated for this series.

Nine pins revival on new series

Nine may not be having the best of times lately, but it has several new shows to screen before the end of the year, and it will surely need them to take on its rivals.

They include the premiere of the local adaptation of The Apprentice featuring Mark Bouris and the next season of Aussie Ladette to Lady (pictured).

There is also a local version of Secret Millionaire in which wealthy folk mingle unknown amongst deserving groups in a bid to be philanthropic.

Coming soon: Sea Patrol UK

There’s no Lisa McCune or Ian Stenlake for miles in this one…

Nine will soon be airing the somewhat confusingly titled Sea Patrol UK.

The National Geographic series follows an elite team of rescue agencies including the RNLI, the RAF, Customs and the Coastguard patrol 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Its slogan is “It’s tough out there.”

The series is one of several new titles on its slate that it recently tipped to advertisers would be coming soon.

TV’s Flash Forward promotions

Remember that buzz word ‘fastracking?’ It was the word of 2007 when our networks suddenly kicked things up a notch with airing shows swiftly after their US seasons. It had happened intermittently until then, but the power (or threat) of the internet shook things up a lot.
