When ‘Exclusives’ come full Circle

TEN’s new morning show The Circle premiered this morning on TEN, and the girls on the show had a good on-air rapport.

Sitting on a couch, as opposed to The View’s table, Denise Drysdale, Yumi Stynes, Chrissie Swan and Gorgi Coghlan bantered and laughed their way through two hours of interviews, songs, cooking and advertorials. Drysdale’s down-to-earth humour is a welcome return to the genre and Coghlan was particularly assured.

No doubt a few teething problems between presenters, cameras and vision switchers will be ironed out, along with knowing whether the show is …

Rumours: GTV9, Top Gear… and Seven’s digital?

The rumour mill is in overdrive on three fronts today:

1. GTV9 Melbourne is close to finalising a sale.

2. Nine is set to announce it has successfully nabbed Top Gear from SBS.

3. Seven will unveil its digital channel plans today.

GTV9:
Nine put off its sale of its studio in Bendigo Street, Richmond in June 2008, withdrawing the property from sale following the global credit crunch. But TV Tonight hears it has been back on the market with a deal very close. The heritage-protected building was constructed in 1908 as part of the Wertheim …

Auditions: Game Show

No finer details on this one yet…

Nine is looking for contestants for a “new game show” in Melbourne.

And no it isn’t Millionaire.

Last year Nine promised a number of other game shows including Jingles and Amnesia. Meanwhile both Temptation and Million Dollar Wheel of Fortune folded.

If you decide to apply, be sure to keep TV Tonight in the loop!

5:30pm: It’s Eddie-TV

Eddie McGuire and Livinia Nixon will co-host the new 5:30pm “magazine-style show” for Nine in Melbourne.

Nine is preparing new lead-ins to its 6pm News in Sydney and Melbourne to again tackle Seven’s Deal or No Deal.

McGuire, who is regularly reported as being on a multi-million dollar salary with Nine, is without a regular show, while Nixon, who presents the weather in the 6pm News, saw her other regular show, Temptation, air its final show yesterday.

Nine’s director of news and current affairs, John Westacott said, “I’m a great subscriber to the American …

Farewell: Temptation

Friday marks the last ever episode of Temptation, the game show that has, in two formats, been a part of Channel Nine for many years.

Temptation revived the Sale of the Century format in May 2005 with Ed Phillips and Livinia Nixon. After many years with Tony Barber, and subsequently Glenn Ridge, it was a risky move. But viewers warmed to the chemistry between Phillips and Nixon, who had previously done radio together.

Last year the show’s return was delayed following the on-going success of Two and a Half Men. Production of the …

McLeod’s marathon mercy killing

Some might call it a McLeod’s Daughters marathon.

Others might say it’s a dreadful treatment to a sentimental favourite.

However you look at it, Nine has scheduled four -that’s 4- back to back episodes of McLeod’s Daughters for Saturday January 17th.

Slated from 7:30pm to 11:30pm they are the 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th episodes of the long-running Nine soap.

A week later Nine has episodes 21 and 22 planned to run at 10 and 11pm respectively. The 22nd episode includes a musical performance by the cast for the local town, bittersweetly titled “The Show …

No Temptation in this finale

Temptation has undergone another programming change which is downright insulting for its final (ever) episode.

Previously it was set to limp out at 10:00pm Friday January 23rd.

Now it’s ending on the same day -at 11:30am in the morning.

Very disappointing.

In the evening Nine is expected to have cricket and movies.

For a show with such a long history as Temptation / Sale of the Century it’s a dreadful exit. Seems there’s no such thing as a graceful exit in television anymore.

Nine personality apologises for ‘rowdy’ night

Just days after a Seven star made headlines for public drunkenness now one of Nine’s faces was arrested for the same misdemeanour on Sunday night.

The Herald Sun reports that Temptation model Scott McGregor was arrested by police in Brunswick St, Fitzroy, after a day of pre-Christmas celebrating. He was taken to the Melbourne Custody Centre and released just after midnight, without charge.

McGregor, who also hosts the Foxtel motoring series Blood Sweat and Gears, said yesterday he regretted the incident.

“I was arrested for being drunk in a public place. We were …

The last Temptation

Friday January 23rd is the last day we’ll be seeing Temptation for the forseeable future. It’s no longer in production, and recent figures haven’t exactly been big enough to remedy that.

But due to One Day Series cricket, it’s getting a very late timeslot.

The final (ever?) episode airs 10pm Friday January 23rd.

It’s a rather inglorious exit for a show with such a strong history on Nine.

Nine’s Secret Millionaire

In Nine’s 2008 ratings report it indicated some of the shows that are due next year. While most are already known to us there were two new titles:

Secret Millionaire and Little Britain.

Secret Millionaire is a British format in which millionaires give away tens of thousand of their own money after spending time living in a community where no one knows that they are wealthy. A US version also begins this week on FOX.

At this stage it’s unclear if Nine airs an international or local version -presumably, it wouldn’t involve a Packer….

As …

Game over for Ed Phillips

Quiz host Ed Phillips has been dumped by Channel Nine.

His contract with Nine recently expired and he will not be offered a deal next year, says Confidential.

The non-renewal unfortunately makes for untimely news, just days before Temptation returns to screens.

Only this week Nine even sent out a press release enthusiastically quoting the host: “We’re certainly coming back with a bang, making contestants sweat on the buzzers over summer.

“I can’t wait until it’s game on,” he said.

Livinia Nixon fares a little better with the network, as weather girl for Nine News in …
