Playing favourites with dancers

So You Think You Can Dance Australia judge Jason Coleman appeared last night on The 7PM Project and responded to criticism (much of it on this site) when he had a go at viewers for their choices over dancers.

“Our show in the past, and I’m very proud of this, had the best dancers standing there at the end. People really listened, the public really listened,” he said.

“I wish I wasn’t called a judge. I wish I was called an adjudicator, or a translator even, because I feel like my …

7PM Project divides critics

This week Channel TEN’s 7PM Project notches up 8 months on air.

After repeated attempts at developing a show to fill the timeslot, including Taken Out and even the infamous Yasmin’s Getting Married, TEN has held its nerve with the Roving Enterprises show, despite figures which many assumed would sound the death knell.

Last week it averaged 653,000 viewers, and has doubtless impacted on TEN’s early evening schedule.

But has it found its feet? Has it improved its mix of news and comedy and is it time for audiences to revisit the show?

Returning: Before the Game

Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald will become a full member of Before the Game when it returns to Channel TEN later this month.

The former AFL and Big Brother personality has been a part-time roving reporter with the show but presumably has been elevated with the exit of Pete Helliar to Seven. He has also been a contributor to The 7pm Project.

Dave Hughes, Mick Molloy, Andrew Maher, Sam Lane and ‘Lehmo’ all return to the show when it resumes on Saturday March 27th.

Molloy’s return does not rule out potential projects which have been floated …

Charlie puts the Sheen on Mondays

What is it about Melbourne viewers and Two and a Half Men? Last night the new episode hauled 635,000 in that city, rising to a big 1.58m viewers -and very probably assuring its place as the week’s top show. No doubt the end of the long weekend in Melbourne helped as viewers settled in for an early night.

Both the Charlie Sheen comedy and My Kitchen Rules have been battling it out for top place recently. Last night Seven’s cooking contest ina  pseudo MasterChef kitchen settled with just under 1.4m viewers, still …

When the Today show went to the Wii Olympics

Apparently Ellen DeGeneres has now picked up on a rather fetching moment recently on the Today show when Karl and Lisa played Winter Olympics sports on a Wii.

If you haven’t seen it, the The 7PM Project recently spotted it, as you can see by this clip.

Worth a belated look….

Steve Price “converted” to Mardi Gras supporter

Wonders never cease. Last night radio host and occasional 7PM Project host Steve Price admitted on television he had been “converted” in his opinion on The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade.

The outspoken host had been a longtime critic of Mardi Gras, including recently asking, “How much money does the New South Wales government toss into the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras that no-one wants to watch?”

The comments triggered a viewer backlash on the show’s official website.

At The 7PM Project’s invitation, he attended his first Parade, interviewing gay men, women, …

Here’s to the ladies who lunch

The girls from The Circle finally got some time to meet with media on Friday, with a lunch at Melbourne’s Riva restaurant on the Elwood foreshore.

It’s been a hectic time since putting the show on its feet for both cast and crew.

Joining them were a number of TEN celebs including Dr. Chris Brown and Charlie Pickering, plus media from print, radio and online. Many remarked on the group’s natural rapport.

TEN Melbourne General Manager Kerry Kingston congratulated the team for their upbeat start and noted that the show was ahead of where …

Steve Price to attend Mardi Gras

EXCLUSIVE: Outspoken commentator Steve Price will attend the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade for the very first time as a guest of The 7PM Project.

The former Sydney radio host recently appeared on the TEN show and made a dismissive comment on the Parade during a discussion on the demise of the Rock Eisteddfod:

Dave Hughes: $4m bucks is quite a bit of money though. I had no idea it cost that much.

Steve Price: Well how much money does the New South Wales government toss into the Gay and Lesbian Mardi …

Seven’s Kitchen on the rise

As 2010 audience trends continue to settle, it’s good news for Seven but not so good for TEN on Mondays. And Nine had good news in the morning.

My Kitchen Rules is rising like a soufflé for the network. The reality show took a cool 1.47m last night, as the night’s #1 show. Seven also introduced 5 new teams to the gameplay surprising both contestants and viewers. The show beat Two and a Half Men / The Big Bang Theory (1.32m / 1.08m) and thrashed The Biggest Loser (658,000). TEN’s reality show …

Cougar Town pounces on ratings

Seven’s campaign for Cougar Town through the Australian Open has paid off with a big debut of 1.34m viewers. It was the #1 show of the night, defeating Law and Order: SVU 1.01m and Adults Only 20 to 1 on 693,000.

The Cougar word is certainly all the buzz at the moment, even being the subject of recent stories on A Current Affair and The 7PM Project.

Seven won the night despite a lukewarm debut for The White Room on 812,000 which had nowhere near as much marketing hype. But it was a …

TEN’s tough Tuesday

Seven’s new cooking contest won its timeslot on night two as My Kitchen Rules increased to 1.18m viewers (up from 1.10m). With Nine committed to the Survivor finale (892,000 / 804,000) it gave Seven a window of opportunity.

The return of Grey’s Anatomy (1.21m) in the traditional Rafters slot was even better news. Together with its standard early night line-up, Seven took the night comfortably on 31.6% to Nine’s 27.1% and TEN’s 18.9%.

The best for TEN was So You Think You Can Dance Australia on 872,000 -down from Sunday’s premiere of 1.16m …

Seven’s Kitchen yet to rule

Seven will be reminded today that MasterChef Australia was no breakout hit for TEN, after a soft launch for its new cooking reality show, My Kitchen Rules.

The show managed 1.1m viewers in its premiere, beaten by a new episode of Two and a Half Men on 1.51m which boomed in Melbourne. The Big Bang Theory also bettered it with 1.24m viewers.

Seven’s show, with a format that so far skates dangerously close to Come Dine With Me, will be trying to get viewers to bond more with its personalities with another episode …
