The hits on iView

Four Corners, United States of Tara, Good Game, Doctor Who, The Chaser’s War on Everything and Media Watch are the most popular titles on the ABC’s iView platform.

The online catch-up service has been operating since July 2008.

Since April this year there have been 6.2 million views of programs with an annual monthly average of 610,000 visits, up by 140% compared to last year.

It averages 206,000 visitors per month, up by 60% compared to last year.

Dan Ilic is one of the 7 on air presenters in Hungry Beast the new media project from Andrew Denton and Anita Jacoby.

Ilic, remembered from his role in The Ronnie Johns Half Hour, is known for his savvy and satirical digs at the wider media including his now infamous Freeview parody on YouTube and as a writer of the fringe theatre piece ‘Beaconsfield The Musical.’

Double Take slammed for “After School You Die” sketch

Seven’s Double Take sketch comedy has come under fire following a sketch last night on schoolyard bullying.

The sketch was presented as an advertisement for a fictional private school ‘St. Fillimore’s.’

A presenter, or possibly principal, boasted the school had “the best bullies money can buy.”

Whilst various scenes showed kids pulling pranks on one another, one scene depicted a laptop screen with the message “After School You Die” being sent between students.

TEN wins second historic week

Network TEN has won the ratings week for only the second time since OzTAM people meters started in 2001.

The last time it won was April 2006 on the back of a week with The Biggest Loser finale leading into Big Brother and Thank God You’re Here.

This week it again won with reality television, the king hit MasterChef Australia. The show was number one for every one of its six nights this week powering to 2.36m viewers on Thursday. Unlike 2006, its share also gets a modest boost from having ONE HD.

Masterchef thumps State of Origin, but Nine wins Wednesday

The judges were getting teary, and presumably so was the nation, as Justine Schofield was sent packing from MasterChef Australia last night.

The show continues to surge upwards, reaching another high of 2.23m viewers, defeating Nine’s State of Origin at 1.84m viewers (it peaked at 2.18m).

So far this week the show has been #1 every night, with all but one episode over the 2 million viewer mark.

But the taste was still sweet for Channel Nine which confidently won the night with a 30.4% share ahead of TEN’s 24.5% and Seven’s 23.6%.

ABC2 coming soon: The Wire, The Beast & more

ABC2 has announced some of its upcoming programming will include The Wire, the premiere of Patrick Swayze’s new series The Beast, plus repeats of ABC1’s  United States of Tara (starring Toni Collette), Cold Feet, and John Safran’s Race Relations.

The shows will comprise part of the channel programming in the next six months.

ABC appoints new Head of Factual

The ABC has appointed a new Head of Factual Programming, Jennifer Collins, who has been serving as ABC TV Arts, Entertainment and Comedy’s Manager of Development.

Collins will oversee ABC’s slate of factual shows including Gardening Australia, Message Stick, Compass, Q&A, Talking Heads, The Cook and the Chef, Can we Help, Fora, Catalyst, and The Collectors. She will report to the Executive Head of Content Creation, Courtney Gibson.
