Returning: American Idol

Channel Nine is likely to be doing a lot of inadvertent promos for American Idol shortly with Ellen about to make her debut as its new judge. She’ll no doubt be bantering about it on her show when it again captures the imagination of a nation.

The series kicks off in the US on January 12th with a 2 hr premiere and FOX8 will again air it in Australia on a same day turnaround, Wednesday January 13 at 7.30pm (that’s the same day in case you forgot about the dateline).

In both media …

ABC kisses and makes up over Lambert

Strange ways them Americans….

After Adam Lambert’s AMA performance, branded too hot for network TV, he was also dropped by Jimmy Kimmel Live and New Year’s Rockin’ Eve both on ABC.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation spoke to ABC about their decision to cancel Adam Lambert’s performances and both issued the following statements:

“Given the live nature of the American Music Awards, Adam Lambert’s performance, which differed greatly from his rehearsal, caught many, including the network, off guard. This is not a question of Lambert’s sexual orientation. As is evidenced by GLAAD’s …

It’s official. Ellen DeGeneres is the permanent fourth judge on American Idol.

In the taping for Thursday’s Ellen DeGeneres Show, DeGeneres said the deal had been in the works for the last couple of weeks.

Set to have both “a day and night job,” Ellen is a big pop culture fan.

“I have not missed one episode of that show. I’ve watched every single thing and I love everything about it,” she said.

“Hopefully I’m the people’s point of view. Like you I sit at home and I watch it. I’m not looking at it …

Bold & Beautiful in historic win at Daytime Emmys

It’s only taken 22 years, but The Bold and the Beautiful has finally won its first Best Drama Series award at the Daytime Emmy Awards (it may have helped that there were only three in contention, the other two being All My Children and Days of Our Lives).

The View’s Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and Sherri Shepherd won for Best Talk-Show Host, defeating Regis & Kelly, Rachel Ray and Ellen DeGeneres. But the gals didn’t bother to travel from New York to Los Angeles for the ceremony …

Dannii chases US (TV) dream

The latest rumour on Dannii Minogue (and let’s face it, they are frequent) is that she is said to have arranged a series of meetings with US agencies in pursuit of a TV gig.

“Dannii is in LA for a week of meetings set up by the number one entertainment agency in LA – William Morris Endeavour,” a source told Metro.

“She will be meeting with the best from TV and film. Some of her meetings include Ryan Seacrest’s company RSP, NBC (who look after America’s Got Talent and I’m A Celebrity) and …

The Biggest confuser: did Ajay quit?

Yesterday Ajay Rochester appeared on Nova to tell Merrick and Rosso, she decided to quit The Biggest Loser, “when I could no longer eat donuts and get away with it. You know when it was? It was last year when I missed Kai’s (her son) School Concert. That was actually the moment when I went, ‘you know what? I don’t think I’ve got another one in me.’”

But there’s just one problem. Earlier this month a TEN spokesperson told TV Tonight, “We have decided not to renew Ajay’s contract in order …
