MTV redesigns iconic logo

After 29 years MTV has redesigned its iconic logo, in a move to shift away from its “Music Television” brand.

While it will still feature the monolithic “M” and “TV” it has dropped the text “Music Television,” confirming fears that music is no longer the channel’s priority. The two words had always appeared underneath the logo, until now.

The City ready to GO!

GO! will soon be screening MTV reality series The City.

The spin-off from The Hills follows the changing life and surroundings of Whitney Port as she moves to the bright lights of Manhattan to work for fashion designer Diane von Fürstenberg.

22 episodes from 2008 – 2009 have aired in the US, with a second series said to be due.

Returning: ER. Bumped: The Hills

Good news for ER fans -at least those with digital television. Bad news for those without… (cmon its 2010 what are you waiting for?).

From Thursday night it will shift to “its new home” on GO! at 10:30pm.

GO! will pick up first run episodes starting with episode nine of the 14th season, ‘Skye’s the Limit.’ Former Sea Patrol regular David Lyons joins from episode fourteen.

It will follow with the final 15th season including the return appearance of George Clooney.

Gone: The Hills, Father of the Pride.

Some lengthy changes have come through for Saturdays on GO!

They are bad news for fans of The Hills, Father of the Pride and South Park.

From this Saturday The Hills is replaced with The Nanny and Get Smart from 6pm.

Father of the Pride, South Park and Reno 9/11 are replaced by repeated of Seinfeld -although Reno 9/11 airs at 10:30pm.

Seinfeld lands a 2hr block from 8:30 – 10:30 as a result.

Returning: The Hills

GO! is returning MTV reality series The Hills later this month.

The show is back at 6pm Saturday October 31st.

It picks up at S2E7 “With Friends Like These…”

It is Jen’s 21st birthday and heartbreak is headed for The Hills. Spencer and Heidi set Jen up with Brody, further driving a wedge between Heidi and Lauren’s friendship. It is clear that Lauren needs to evaluate her friendships.

Channel GO! will screen The Vampire Diaries on Monday nights, at 8:30pm from Monday September 28th.

The new teen-horror drama starring Ian Somerhaulder launched as the most-watched premiere ever for the CW Network with 4.91m viewers. A repeat episode will also screen at midnight.

The series is the first major title to enjoy a first run on GO! just ahead of its full channel launch on October 4th.

At 11:00pm will be a repeat of Bridezillas.

Earlier in the evening a double ep of The Hills will also air at 7:30pm.

“Survivors ready? GO!”

From today GO! begins its signal on digital televisions, ahead of its ’soft-launch’ on Sunday night with an array of tasty titles.

TV Tonight spoke to Les Sampson, Nine’s Network Director of Multichannels about its programming.

GO! is structured similar to a subscription TV channel with ‘block’ programming from 3:30pm – 12am, which is repeated again the next day. The SD channel has been carefully programmed so as not to cannibalise Nine and to skew towards younger demographics.

“The model is designed so that we get maximum use of the available audience,” says Sampson.

More information emerged on GO! in the last week when critic Andrew Mercado told MediaWeek about some of the programming plans he had seen as part of his chat for A Current Affair.

Sunday night is sitcoms and movies, Monday includes male-skewed reality such as Dog the Bounty Hunter and Bad Lads Army; Tuesday is female-skewed reality such as Survivor, The Bachelor and Bachelorette; Wednesday night is Sci-Fi; Thursday is Gossip Girl, The Hills; Friday and Saturday is aimed at CSI when the target audience is out.

Nine confirms GO!99

The Nine Network has confirmed GO! as the name of its new entertainment channel, a name first revealed by TV Tonight in April.

Set to launch on August 9th, the channel will offer themed nights including reality on Tuesdays, science fiction on Wednesdays, and female-skewed content on Thursdays.

Several other summer shows and dates were confirmed yesterday by the Nine Network.

Sudden Impact, an observational series narrated by Gary Sweet premieres Tuesday, December 9th at 8.00pm. It is to follow new episodes of reality series Police Ten 7.

Emergency returns Thursdays at 7.30pm from December 4th.

Battlefronts is back Sundays at 6.30pm from December 14th. Meanwhile long-running MTV reality series The Hills (pictured) premieres Saturday, December 6th at 12.30pm. The series, which is heavily constructed by producers, has already aired on subscription TV.

There are rumours today that Channel Nine has picked up the rights to The Hills, for a likely summer airing.

A spin-off of MTV’s Laguna Beach, it documents the life of Lauren Conrad and her friends in Los Angeles after leaving her home in Laguna Beach, California.

90210 launched yesterday in the US yesterday and delivered the highest rated series premiere ever for the CW network in the 18-49 demographic.
