Remembering Lynn

Veteran Television Producer James Davern, creator of A Country Practice, has paid tribute to writer and producer Lynn Bayonas who died last week.

“Over almost half a century Bayonas – as writer, script editor, producer and head of television drama for Channel Nine – helped create hundreds of hours of entertainment enjoyed by Australians,” he wrote in The Age.

Australian Producer and Writer Lynn Bayonas has died, following a long battle with cancer.

Bayonas was Producer of children’s series The Saddle Club for Crawford Productions from 2001 – 2008 after a six year stint as a writer in Hollywood on Sunset Beach and Prime Time (US).

Screen Hub notes she started in the industry almost by accident, as a young Australian in London in the 1960’s, who became Orson Welles’ assistant, where she learnt the art of screen storytelling.

2009 ARIAs: Nominations

The 2009 ARIA Awards announced nominations yesterday, with former Australian Idol singer Jessica Mauboy tieing with Empire Of The Sun for the most nominations.

Mauboy has nods in the fields of Best Female, Breakthrough Artist Single, Breakthrough Artist Album, Best Pop Release and Highest Selling Australian album, along with two entries in the Highest Selling Australian Single field with ‘Burn’ and ‘Running Back’.

Tassie dreams of kids’ TV

Looks like Tasmania is hoping to increase its output of children’s television programming with the announcement of a special initiative between Screen Tasmania and the Australian Children’s Television Foundation (ACTF).

For many years it is Victoria that has led the way with the lucrative children’s genre, thanks largely to producers such as Jonathan M. Shiff’s Elephant Princess plus Crawford’s The Saddle Club, while Queensland has picked up pace with Animalia, WA had Lockie Leonard and Sydney is busy with the ABC’s My Place series.

Returning: The Saddle Club

After its troubled production shoot, children’s series The Saddle Club will return to Nine and WIN on Saturday March 7th at 10:00am.

The 26 part children’s drama series follows the success of series 1 and 2, both in Australia and internationally. The third series is an Australian – Canadian co-production.

An all-new cast includes Australian Ariel Kaplan, Canadians Lauren Dixon and Victoria Campbell along with supporting cast member Marny Kennedy, who received the AFI Young Actor Award in 2006 for her role in Mortified.

Returning: The Saddle Club

WIN and Nine will air the third series of The Saddle Club next year.

Produced by legendary production company Crawford Productions, in conjunction with a Canadian company, the 26 part series was filmed between November 2007 and May 2008.

Previously the series aired on the ABC.

The third series includes an all-new cast includes Australian Ariel Kaplan, Canadians Lauren Dixon and Victoria Campbell along with supporting cast member Marny Kennedy (Mortified).

It returns early in 2009.
