Why we love Rosie

Rosie O’Donnell is preparing a live Thanksgiving special, Rosie Live for November 26th on NBC.

The old-fashioned return to variety is set to include a duet with Liza Minnelli, and appearances by Kathy Griffin, Gloria Estefan, Jane Krakowski, Alanis Morisette and Alec Baldwin.

During interviews for the show, O’Donnell has again been asked about her time on The View, which ended after THAT on air joust with Elisabeth Hasselbeck and a reported refusal by Walters to rein in an on-going feud.

According to Rosie, Barbara Walters “wanted everyone to believe and think and act …

Seven appoints daytime programmer

Seven has appointed a new Programmer for its daytime schedules, in Roosje Scott.

Scott, who joined the network in 2001, has previously been Program Services Manager and has overseen 7HD schedules.

The daytime war, which is fiercely prized by TEN, has seen the addition of The View and Ellen on Nine as a way of building a consistent demographic. Susie has also been dropped from WIN Television in Adelaide and Perth daytime schedules.

Seven’s current daytime schedule from 6am to 6pm includes Sunrise, The Morning Show, movies, plus repeats of Desperate Housewives, Moonlighting, some …

A summer of Temptation

Move over, Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer. Nine’s first week of summer programming indicates Temptation is returning to a 7pm weeknight timeslot. The network has two months of episodes up its sleeve, filmed mid year.

In other news, McLeod’s Daughters will become a Saturday night drama, clearly skewed to an older audience, which will compete with ABC shows. Fringe gets a Monday slot and Survivor will air both Mondays and Tuesdays. ER and Gossip Girl get Wednesday slots, but the latter is quite late (10:30pm) given its younger audience. Nine must be …

Scarier than Halloween

Halloween is an American tradition, and thankfully not one that’s yet over-bloated here.

On American TV there are always opportunities to celebrate the odd occasion. The Simpsons’ Treehouse of Horror finally managed to send-up Charlie Brown’s “Great Pumpkin” story. Milhouse is Linus. Lisa is Sally.

On The View, they dressed up as former US Presidents (were they that scary, girls?). Whoopi Goldberg appeared as Franklin D. Roosevelt, Joy Behar was Theodore Roosevelt, Barbara Walters was George Washington, Sherri Shepherd was Abraham Lincoln on a penny!

And Elisabeth Hasselbeck dressed as Ronald Reagan. Bush is …

Bumped: Susie (Adelaide)

Following on from WIN-owned STW9 Perth moving Susie from its daytime schedule, now NWS9 Adelaide has followed suit.

As of today the show is no longer on at 12pm but 12midnight, where it also landed in Perth.

As previously reported on TV Tonight, WIN’s own chat show has been attracting slight figures in Perth and Adelaide markets, while east coast PBL stations have added The View and The Ellen DeGeneres Show to their daytime line up.

From today The View is also now seen on STW9 at midday, giving it a consistent timeslot …

Clinton on The View

Bill Clinton will make his first-ever appearance on The View due to air in Australia on Tuesday on Nine and W Channel.

The former president will chat about the Clinton Global Initiative, a non-partisan outreach program that brings together a community of global leaders to create innovative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges including starvation and HIV/AIDS.

Of course being The View it’s debatable how much airtime will actually be given over to this, but Whoopi Goldberg is likely to keep issues on the table. The real interest will be …

Seven wins as TEN is taken out

It was the week that Ernie Dingo and Kyle Sandilands had a spat on radio, the ABC renewed its push for a kids’ channel, Access 31 was put on the market, TEN picked up women’s netball from FOX Sports, GTV9 won a Heritage listing, Nine axed its Euro correspondent, Underbelly won the right to start screening in Victoria (sort of), TEN and Seven fought over AFL sponsors and a 17yo reality contestant took a stand on her show’s conduct.

And it was another big win for Seven with 29.9% in Week 37 …

Susie in the arvo

The introduction of The Ellen DeGeneres Show across all of Nine affiliates has caused movement at the station -WIN Television that is. Previously airing at 10am the show now moves to 12pm where it’s followed by WIN’s own Susie.

Mornings with Kerri-Anne has returned to 9am.

In Perth and Adelaide, where Susie has aired at 12pm, it is the reverse of WIN. She remains in place, while The View screens on other PBL stations. Next week she is joined by one of Sea Patrol’s best actors, Jeremy Lindsay Taylor. Known on the Nine …

Ellen added to 9HD

Nine has added The Ellen DeGeneres Show to its HD late night line-up, which is great news for those who don’t get to see it during the daytime and don’t have Arena. Letterman has some competition?

Start times vary according to preceding shows, anywhere from 12 midnight to 12:40am.

It screens from Sunday - Thursday on 9HD, which is also good news given the show is now filmed in high definition.

(If it’s not already on this week Nine guide indicates it will be on from Sunday Sept 14 -but usually these things are …

“Please welcome Mrs. Ellen DeGeneres”

…so said the announcer as Ellen DeGeneres returned to television as a married woman. The sixth series is now broadcasting for the first time from Warner Bros Studios and airing in Australia on Nine.

“This is the first time I’ve done the show in a thong,” she laughed, “And it’s my first show as a married lady.”

When DeGeneres, who married Aussie Portia deRossi, showed off her wedding ring she got a standing ovation.

“Who knew John McCain and I would have something in common? We both chose female running mates.”

With guests including …
