Television chef Maggie Beer has been named Senior Australian of the Year.
Beer, who finished co-hosting ABC’s The Cook and the Chef last year, was announced as winner in a ceremony conducted by Kevin Rudd and Chair of the National Australia Day Council Adam Gilchrist outside Parliament House last night.
She was recognised for championing local produce by farmers from the Barossa Region.
Aged 65, the self-taught cook couldn’t resist extolling the virtues of cooking in her acceptance speech.
“All I am doing is what I love to do and being able to share it. …
Engelbert all Wiggled out
You would think with a name like his, there wouldn’t be much that would faze Engelbert Humperdinck.
But he looked a little lost during Carols in The Domain’s full cast finale.
When The Wiggles pushed to the front to perform a kid’s Xmas song, Engelbert (birth name: Arnold George Dorsey) didn’t know what to make of the moment.
And especially when everyone else seemed to know those Wiggly audience participation gestures.

Kate Ritchie, who co-hosts the ARIA Awards this week for Nine, will return to Seven to co-host Carols in the Domain.
For the third year running she will co-host with Grant Denyer.

Ritchie, who will exit her Nova radio gig for a return to acting, said “It is incredibly beautiful….thousands upon thousands of glowing …

A funny old fellow is back… sorta
He may be in the hands of receivers, but he’s still loved by Channel Nine programming.
Nine is screening repeats of Here’s Humphrey from tomorrow.
He will return at 3:30pm, replacing The Wiggles’ production The Kingdom of Paramithi.
Of course, PBL Media has no direct involvement with the outstanding studio fees owed by Banksia Productions to WIN’s Channel Nine in Adelaide.
So why the immediate switch?
Humphrey had no comment.
Which is hardly so very surprising…
Kids’ series to Rock It! through Asia
Local kids’ series Rock It!, developed and produced by its youthful stars Dina McPherson and Gian Christian, will begin airing on networks throughout Asia, beginning with Singapore’s number 1 children’s TV channel OKTO from October.
Its combination of early learning curriculum mixed with fantastical characters, colourful costumes, puppets, pop music and dance has resonated with Asian networks.
“The positive broadcaster response to Rock It! in the Asian region has been a lovely surprise, with interest in future series even before the current series has aired,” series creator Dina McPherson told TV Tonight.
Producer, Gian …
Airdate: The Kingdom of Paramithi
Good to see more local production of children’s television, with the Wiggles-created The Kingdom of Paramithi, a European-style fairytale series with musical stories, song and dance.
Nine Network’s Director of Commercial Development Martin Hersov said: “It’s with great pleasure that we have teamed up with The Wiggles and Nickelodeon on this exciting new series. Alongside Hi-5, Nine is now the home of the best of Australian-produced pre-school programming and we can’t wait to launch the series later this year.”
It launches on Nine at 3:30pm Monday November 10.
