Big Bang minus the laugh-track theory

So what’s a sitcom like without the laugh track added?

Umm not very funny.

Check out this clip of The Big Bang Theory without the required mirth.

I once saw an entire episode of Get Smart without laughs. And it went to air too. It was really weird…. Some shows the laugh track is clearly a character in itself and just not the same without it. Someone MASH fans may be able …

Trailer: Treme

The Wire is legendary in the realm of modern television.

Now its creator David Simon and writer Eric Overmyer have a new HBO series, set in post-Katrina New Orleans.

Treme (pronounced “Trem-ay”) is named after a neighbourhood in New Orleans. The series is about the rebuilding of the city through the eyes of local musicians -a captivating idea in itself, would we expect anything less?

Simon has said the series will move beyond the music scene to encompass political corruption, the public housing controversy, the criminal-justice system, clashes between police and Mardi Gras Indians, …

So what’s been your summer gem?

The other week a journalist asked me for some quotes on how our TV summer season was faring and I pointed out that historically, the 09 / 10 season has offered an abundance of choice -at least compared to when we had just 5 channels, half of which were stuck on sport.

This year the amount of content has boomed, thanks to our extra digital channels.

But when the article appeared in print, readers hit back saying summer is still a dead zone. I got slammed. Well, it is if you stick with …

The Greatest TV Shows Of The Noughties?

Lists, lists and more lists emerging as the year and the decade draw to a close.

There are many opinions about which shows have shaped the last ten years of television.

The Sunday Age on the weekend noted: The Sopranos, The Office, Australian Idol, Big Brother and Lost.

“Big Brother debuted in the Netherlands in 1999. By 2001 we had our own version, and we could not believe our eyes. For the first time we were seeing not just real people on television, but real people like us. Despite furious denial in some …

It’s rough, it’s raw, and it’s a spoiler if you haven’t seen the full series (some of which is still airing on GO!).

But here is a pretty cool montage of some of the best lines from The Wire. Or should that be The Mother F***** Wire?

Sit back for Omar, Bubbles, Bunk, McNulty, Rawls, Stringer, Avon, Snoop, Marlo, Cheese, Prop Joe and Clay Davis’ best grabs.

“Yo happy now, bitch?”

Warning, warning, warning…….

Series 2 of The Wire on ABC2

As expected, ABC2 will continue with a second series of The Wire next week when the first season finishes.

Possible Spoilers:

As the illicit drug war with Avon Barksdale’s (Wood Harris) crew rages on, the action moves from the battered streets and squalid projects of West Baltimore, to the city’s troubled waterfront.

With an unflinching look at Baltimore’s port workers and unions, the second series chronicles the steady decline of the working class.

As was the case in the first series the storyline is told from the points of view of both the police and …

Returning: The Wire

The fifth and final season of The Wire is coming to GO! in October.

The drama series, which is currently airing in its first season on ABC2, continues to examine the Baltimore police department, the Stanfield organisation and city hall. In the fifth series its major focus is journalism, dramatised through a newsroom.

Variety’s Brian Lowry noted that the series’ look at the media as the most realistic portrayal of a newsroom in film and television history.

It returns at 9:30pm Wednesday October 14th on GO! and is repeated at 2am.

When GO! has its full launch on October 4th the channel will add titles including Australian premieres of  Nip / Tuck, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Weeds, Father of the Pride and episodes of South Park and Reno 911.

The Vampire Diaries launches next week, Monday September 28th.

The channel will be offering extra block repeating of its primetime shows from midnight. The Partridge Family also appears weekdays at 11:30am. So far GO! is yet to add other titles including The Wire (promised for October), Hell’s Kitchen and Privileged.

September TV loves sport

Sport is surging in September. Two AFL matches roared to over 1.4m giving Seven and TEN some big victories, notably helping the latter save face after an ordinary week. NRL topped 1m at Nine and also helped the network win Sunday. But while audiences fluctuate it was GO! that again got Nine across the line to win Week 38 -the second such glory in a row.

Nine finished with 28.9% ahead of Seven’s 27.5% and TEN’s 20.7%. The ABC had 17.7% and SBS 5.2%.

Nine won all key demos 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54.
