B430
I dunno about you, but I always thought of Channel [V] as a music channel.
Apparently it’s a little more youth-based than purely music, as evidenced by replays of Taken Out, Flight of the Conchords, and its interstitial contest Cash Cab.
B430 is another show that broadens its horizons, literally, as a kind of hip version of Getaway. It’s the locally-produced travelogue that takes you to 9 hot spots around the world deemed must-see destinations before you turn 30.
It’s also a show that reminds you TV travel hosts have the best bloody …
Nine shuffles production team as Factual boss resigns
Nine has made some changes to its senior production team following the resignation of John McAvoy, Head of Factual Programming.
“I’ve loved my time at Nine and wish David Gyngell, Michael Healy and their teams every success,” McAvoy said. “After 18 years with the network I’m looking forward to taking a bit of a break.”
Director of Programming, Michael Healy, said: “We’re sorry to see John go. He has been a significant member of our programming department over the last four years. We wish him all the best and …
Mid year ratings: It’s Seven and TEN
Week 28 is officially the half-way mark of the survey year. And what a week it turned out to be.
In a result symbolic of the year so far, Seven won every night except one, TEN finished second and Nine was relegated to third. And in a move sure to be giving commercial networks a headache, SBS also had its best week of the year.
Seven won with 27.5% ahead of TEN’s 23.1% and Nine’s 23.0%. The ABC had 16.1% and SBS 10.4%.
TEN won 16-39 and 18-49 while Seven snatched 25-54 demos. Last …
Gone: Trouble in Paradise
Nine has yanked its new travel story series off air after just three episodes.
Across its three weeks the show managed 1.16m / 1.09m and 871,000 viewers. Its lead in from Getaway last night was 1.21m.
Last night Nine lost its all-important Thursday night to Seven. But all the networks took a hit with SBS screening the Ashes series and managing a 14% share.
The Footy Show plummeted to 785,000, most of which went to the AFL edition. The NRL version slumped to an appalling 138,000 in Sydney. It continues to be immune from …
Three way brawl for ratings week
Week 26 was the tightest ratings race all year.
TEN was riding high on MasterChef, Nine had the State of Origin and Seven… well, Seven really just had another week of regular programming. By Saturday we had ourselves a three way tie.
But a cleverly timed Michael Jackson tribute helped Nine take the final night and all three had to contend with ABC programming too.
Nine won Week 26 with a 26.3% share ahead of TEN’s 25.8% and Seven’s 25.5%. The ABC had 17.6% and SBS 4.8%.
TEN again won key demos 16-39, 18-49 and …
Give me a Break
After more than seventeen years on air, Getaway is adding a new segment.
“Give me a Break” promises that “a lucky worker is surprised and taken to an instant holiday.”
Hopefully not to the travel hotspots of Trouble in Paradise, which airs immediately afterwards.
The first segment can be seen from July 2nd.
Returning: Rush
Thursday nights just got a whole lot more interesting with TEN confirming it will be the new night for Rush.
The TEN drama will return Thursday July 16 at 8.30pm.
That pits it against Trouble in Paradise and whatever Seven has in store, given Grey’s Anatomy is coming to an end soon (Seven will begin double eps after Private Practice ends).
It will also be the only Aussie made drama on the box after 7:30pm. Well… The Footy Show likes to manufacture a bit of drama but that doesn’t count…
The 8:30pm timeslot should give …
Trouble in Paradise
TV Tonight has taken a sneak peek at Nine’s new series Trouble in Paradise.
As only one of two stories was supplied by Nine, this isn’t a full review, so much as a teaser of what to expect…
The story entailed two Aussies on a surfing holiday in Mexico, who, in a beach outpost find themselves at the mercy of corrupt local police.
Like true crime tales, such as Crime Investigation Australia, the format here is a mix of witness accounts and re-enactments.
The two men who were subjected to a terrifying ordeal at gunpoint …
Airdate: Trouble in Paradise
Nine will premiere its new travel-based series Trouble in Paradise from 8:30pm Thursday June 25.
This means it replaces a long run by 20 to 1 (Bert has surely been over-worked there!) and will sensibly follow Getaway.
The show promises “incredible stories of travellers who’ve been subjected to terrifying experiences while on holidays in different parts of the world. They escaped with their lives, but it could easily happen to any one of us.”

TV’s Flash Forward promotions
Remember that buzz word ‘fastracking?’ It was the word of 2007 when our networks suddenly kicked things up a notch with airing shows swiftly after their US seasons. It had happened intermittently until then, but the power (or threat) of the internet shook things up a lot.
Networks even got in a huff about who “owned” the word ‘Fastracked’ which Seven used for its branding. Then the writers’ strike hit, and suddenly networks were put on the backfoot. Having taken the leap of faith with hot, new episodes ahead of regular programming, …
homeMADE tipped for schedule makeover
Despite Nine issuing a forthcoming guide to media yesterday with two weekly episodes of homeMADE intact, News Limited says it will be shelved into a new timeslot.
On Sunday it was beaten again by Merlin and Sunday Night, nabbing only 958,000 viewers.
While a Nine publicist said homeMADE was still on the schedule for “at least the next three episodes” it is expected to be replaced at 6.30pm from this Sunday by a new series Random Acts of Kindness, hosted by Karl Stefanovic.
Nine is also readying Trouble in Paradise for a launch soon.

Nine renovates post Easter schedule
Channel Nine will premiere its new renovation series homeMADE after the Easter non-ratings break.
Previously titled Home Run, the series is developed by The Chopping Block’s Julian Cress and David Barbour. Both also created The Block. Interior designers will battle it out as they make over everyday Australian family homes. The homes will be the stage where “the designers will wage war on each other until only one remains and takes out the ultimate prize.”
The series, hosted by Sydney interior designer David Heimann, is expected to be stripped across the 7pm timeslot. …
