Nine greenlights new local drama
Channel Nine will launch a new drama series in 2009, Rescue Squad.
Described as a “high octane drama” it will centre on the lives and loves of a Special Operations Rescue Squad.
The series will join with Underbelly and Sea Patrol as a flagship drama for the network in 2009. It follows recent news that Nine would not proceed with The Young Doctors.
Amongst some of the other new formats set to launch are several factual and “blue sky” shows that reward ordinary Aussies or make their dreams come true.

Screen Music Award winners
The 2008 APRA - AGSC Screen Music Awards were announced last night in Sydney recognising film and television composers.
Underbelly’s dark soundtrack earned seasoned composer Burkhard Dallwitz two trophies for best television theme and best music for a television series. It beat Summer Heights High, Elders and The Gruen Transfer for best theme. Losing out in best music were City Homicide, Summer Heights High and Who Do You Think You Are?

Top Gear Australia: Jack Thompson
Jack Thompson is the guest on Top Gear Australia on Monday October 20th, as the “Celebrity in a Bog Standard Car”.
He follows Julia Zemiro’s stint on the show tonight.
Thompson, who appeared as the first celeb on SBS’ localised Who Do You Think You Are?, is the third SBS personality to appear in four weeks.
The episode will also see the hosts in remote Western Australia, Lang Lang in Victoria and playing lawn balls.

SBS has an episode of Who Do You Think You Are? coming which features actor David Tennant. In this episode you’ll hear a lot more of his natural Scottish accent.
The excellent UK genealogy series shows celebrities tracing their family tree, which as anyone who has seen the show will know, becomes a wonderful piece of detective work, matched with some emotional moments.

This week SBS announced highlights of its 2008 / 2009 summer programming, said to be the network’s biggest-ever line-up of new Australian shows. Some shows will launch before summer, but continue into non-ratings.
Its local productions are led by Top Gear Australia and Bogan Pride plus the arrival of the new drama Carla Cametti PD and Paul Fenech’s comedy Swift and Shift Couriers.
