Nine: After the Olympics

Nine has released details of its programming for the week of February 28, when the Olympics winds up.

Despite some TBAs, it heralds the return of Domestic Blitz, 60 Minutes, the newly titled Kerri-Anne, Kitchen Nightmares USA, plus returning Cold Case and CSI: NY. The second Whizz Kids Millionaire episode will air, while the Closing Ceremony of the Olympics screens live in the daytime with an evening replay.

Nine will also air the Wicked Love telemovie in this week, likely to be slated in the 8:30pm Sunday slot.

Nine is yet to declare …

Airdate: Whizz Kids: Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

The first hour of Nine’s junior Millionaire episode will air at 7:30pm Saturday February 27th.

Nine has filmed two hours of a traditional Millionaire format featuring students from Engadine High School in Sydney, and Blackburn High and Frankston High in Melbourne. The students have a chance to win $1m for their school.

For this episode the “Phone a Friend” became “Ask a Teacher” and “Ask the Audience” was “Ask the School”.

It includes crosses to the students armed with keypads, and segments hosted by Scott Cam, Shane Crawford and Charli Delaney.

Spoilers: “Whizz Kids” Millionaire special

Minor Spoilers: Eddie McGuire filmed a special edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire yesterday, with “Whizz Kids” students competing for a cash prize for their school.

Participating in the special were students from Engadine High School in Sydney, and Blackburn High and Frankston High in Melbourne.

Filmed as a traditional Millionaire episode, rather than Hot Seat, the 2 hour special returned to 15 questions, and 3 lifelines.

The “Phone a Friend” was transformed to “Ask a Teacher” and “Ask the Audience” was “Ask the School”. Live crosses to the schools saw students …

Nine: 2010 Programme Launch

Nine CEO David Gyngell, programmer Michael Healy and sales boss Peter Wiltshire today capped off their East Coast tour to media buyers of the 2010 slate for Channel Nine.

It included a showreel of titles including Underbelly, Winter Olympics, Top Gear, Hey Hey its Saturday, The Real Hustle, V, AFP, Community Wicked Love, and The Politically Incorrect Parenting Show. Nine also talked up the fact it will have four local dramas including Cops LAC, Sea Patrol, and Rescue: Special Ops.

Gyngell said in a statement, “I believe we are going into …

Heads or Tails or overkill?

So, as previously rumoured, Nine is now looking at yet another game show for Eddie McGuire.

This time, that television Two-Up idea we’d heard whispers about, entitled Heads or Tails.

According to The West Australian, Ed decided to stay home in Melbourne at the weekend, rather than fly across to Perth to watch Collingwood play, in order to work with an American production company on the pilot for another potential quiz show based on two-up.

The Daily Telegraph reports it was shot this week, along with another pilot with US Biggest Loser …

Solid debut or No Deal?

It’s been a funny old week of assessing the Hot Seat v Deal or No Deal battle.

Media have been falling over themselves trying to summarise the stoush.

Just take a look at these headlines that have been used:

Eddie McGuire fails to topple ratings winner Deal or No Deal
Andrew O’Keefe wins head to head with Eddie McGuire
Hot Seat makes solid debut
Eddie McGuire’s Millionaire Hot Seat beaten by MASH
Eddie McGuire’s Millionnaire Hot Seat well behind Deal Or No Deal
Underbelly, Eddie McGuire’s Millionaire Hot Seat cop ratings blow
Eddie and Andrew are game on
A tough deal …

Game on. It’s Eddie v Andrew

Let the games begin.

The 5:30pm timeslot has hotted up with confirmation that Nine will pit Millionaire Hot Seat against Seven’s Deal or No Deal.

The match begins from Monday April 20th, the second day back in the ratings race.

Nine promises a “$20 Million dollar month, a totally new game sees 6 contestants going head to head in a mighty battle to win the cash.”

This means the show is not yet committing to anything beyond four weeks of episodes. If it doesn’t work at least it’s a way out. If it does, could …

Millionaire: “20 nights! $20M!”

Eddie McGuire probably won’t be settling in for a long haul on Millionaire Hot Seat if an online promo is anything to go by.

“20 nights! $20 million dollars!” he declares.

The modified Millionaire format is expected to be a fast-paced half-hour edition of the show, in which contestants have just one life line that effectively passes the question to the next contestant. Contestants can only pass once and must answer a question if it passed to them. The prize pool also shrinks as questions are answered incorrectly. The last player standing …

Eddie locks in Millionaire

As first tipped by TV Tonight last month, Eddie McGuire is returning to front Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

The faster-version of the show is based on European variations of the format which drives through more contestants and requires them to lock in answers more quickly.

In its recent pilot it was dubbed Millionaire: Russian Roulette, but the final title is Millionaire Hot Seat.

“It’s the best game show in the history of television, and the hottest movie in the world,” McGuire told the Herald Sun. “Millionaire is back by popular demand, …

Auditions: Game Show

No finer details on this one yet…

Nine is looking for contestants for a “new game show” in Melbourne.

And no it isn’t Millionaire.

Last year Nine promised a number of other game shows including Jingles and Amnesia. Meanwhile both Temptation and Million Dollar Wheel of Fortune folded.
