  1. One of the questions on ABC’s Q+A last night was “Irrespective of the referendum result, can the nation bridge deep divides in communities and families?”.

I think ABC has one of the biggest roles in bridging divides. The way the presentation is done, particularly in news and current affairs. But also in other content that can be seen by some as contentious. It’s difficult to work with and support ABC resources, when there is opposition within the communities, especially outside of inner-city green-left electorates. That’s what I’m noticing as feedback.

Everyone should be able to support the ABC, without people saying things about defunding, biases and the pushing of political ideologies.

There are certain issues where a person, or a group’s place in society does need acknowledgement. It’s difficult. I think it comes down to the rate of progression and how it could clash, or ultimately, how it is presented.

  2. I cannot fathom why SBS keep changing program names??….current…Rescue Extreme Medics…listed as Scotlands Extreme Medics….just the latest in a line of many.

    1. It’s call branding. It’s major point of difference with the other paramedic shows is Scotish accents. Rescue: Extreme Medics hardly rolls off the tongue, and it was for the Scottish audience who didn’t need to be told the context. It also makes it harder to find it on the IMDB and discover that zero viewers found it interesting enough to bother clicking on a rating.

  3. Just saw a promo for big brother and for the first time ever I’m out from the start it looks terrible I wish it would go back to the original format like it was on10 and 9

  4. The 2nd question is. No one has commented on Shark Tank “Sharks” have been wearing the same clothes for the whole season. Whereas with Hunted it was commented on. It must of been a very long shoot for the day to do the whole season. With tongue firmly in cheek. You think the sharks could of affordable a larger wardrobe.

    1. What I am really sick of hearing is Catriona Wallace each week remind us that she is in tech, metaverse and AI like a broken record. Then she pulls out of most pitches because she cannot put AI into it. Well don’t go on the show if you want to limit your options to that degree.

  5. I have 2 questions in regards to Channel 10 programs. Why do they need to constantly show repeats of Cheap Seats, Shark Tank being the most. Followed by The Amazing Race Australia. But I couldnt find a repeat of the drama “Heat” . Which I ended up watching on 10 Play.

  6. I find it completely odd that people are complaining about Danny Dyer’s presence in Channel 10’s “Heat”, yet there is no one complaining about Sean Penn and Susan Sarandon in Stan’s C*A*U*G*H*T.

Though to be honest, I am fine with international stars appearing on our local productions, as long as it was made with a global audience in mind or if it was being co-produced with a foreign TV channel or streaming service!

    1. I’m fine with it as long as it makes for an interesting story. I’m against Caught on the grounds that it has more stars in its name that it has on the IMDB.

    1. Yes. I happened to open BritBox on Sunday while browsing (channel surfing!), and saw it was returning. I then checked last night and episode 1 is there. (Week to week release).

  7. Just checked the 10 play website to find out that the 10,10Peach, 10Bold and Nickelodeon streams have disappeared from the website and potentially from the app as well.

  8. Hello David Knox.

Where can I find the TV Networks Distribution Deals & TV Shows/Sports Rights Contracts, are there any Websites that provide them??
And also the Australian TV Networks Distribution Deals with USA/Internationals??

    Many Thanks!

        1. All of them were renewed in the last year. The @l^mp!cs deal runs to Brisbane 2032, NRL deal 2023-2027, the AFL 2024- 2031, The Tennis and Cricket rights were also renewed for 5 years. Foxtel’s WBD deal to 2025, by which time Max will have launched in Australia. The ABC’s deal with the BBC is renewed every few years, the last renew was around May. Seven & Foxtel’s deals with Universal was a few months ago when Bravo launched and the time period was not mentioned. But less you have many billions of dollars and want to buy the exclusive rights to something next decade, it’s not particularly useful information.

    1. Details sometimes appear in the media or they want to promote deals. There aren’t many deals these days as where a producer operates a streaming service in this country, they send most of their stuff there and US TV doesn’t rate in Australia anyway. The ABC has deal with BBC which they use to get repeats of shows 12 months or longer after they air in the UK. Seven has a deal to pick some ITV dramas (though many go to Britbox) and NBCUniversal for lifestyle and chat show for Bravo, and Hallmark for daytime TVMs. Nine has a deal for Reel One (Canadian equivlent of Hallmark) daytime TVMs. Foxtel has deals with WBD (which contains a clause for when Max starts here) and Universal for drama. Australian producers usually sell on the open market at MIPCOM. Sports you can see where the sports are on e.g Stan are airing The Rugby World Cup and Champions League at the moment, and Nine is already promoting @l^mp!cs. Australian producers usually sell on the open market at MIPCOM.

  9. I saw Dylan Alcott on The Cheap Seats. Very admirable to see Dylan working with disability representation in advertising.

I don’t think a full-time disability based channel exists for terrestrial TV worldwide. I haven’t checked every channel. Though it’s an idea to throw out there. From sign language to disability representation. Government likes bureaucracy, so it seems like something noble that could be funded, if it couldn’t be funded through advertising revenue. Another seemingly critical service that would appeal beyond the target market audience.

At least there should be something like The British Sign Language Act 2022, which has been mentioned or discussed on this site before.

  10. Just finished watching series 2 of The Newsreader on Iview. What a great cast and awesome show. would be surprised if overseas networks do not remake it for their own markets. World class.

        1. S1 was much better. They picked a period with the good news stories and created characters and their stories around that. S2 has been uneven and largely a soap opera, the stock market crash episode was particularly weak.

  11. The other day, there was discussion on this site about the impractical jokers show and I mentioned that it was unwise, even though some find it funny. There is a story going around about a YouTube prankster who was shot. And who can forget that radio presenter incident from years ago. I’m not going to mention the names.

I really worry about some of these content creators. For goodness sake, above all, stay safe.

      1. It’s just an example. There were other incidents from talk shows as well.

To put it simply, it’s unwise to make a fool of others, like through pranks or practical jokes. It could go wrong.

  12. It’s interesting to note that ABC’s Rage is playing the anti-Trans Roisin Murphy (Moloko) on Monday morning, according to their published playlists. This is because Roisin may or may not have been shadowbanned by the BBC due to anti-Trans views.

    1. My TV is a smart TV, it takes its time automatically from an internet time server. As I don’t have enough router slots to use it as a smart TV, I have a clock sitting next to that I set to tell the time.

  13. Some whopping figures on the way for Seven in the morning I reckon, OzTAM needs investigating if not! One of the greatest ever Grand Finals today, nail biting for every minute, start to finish, oh heartbreak for Brisbane, thought they’d snatch it in the dying seconds, but good old Collingwood 😉 Add to that the entertainment, stunningly unseasonal weather, the top notch productions and I’m even a neutral! Celebrations into the night… Might watch FTA premiere “Free Guy” (also a TVT Daily Pick), saw it featured and trending on I think Disney Plus a year or so ago.

    1. I didn’t watch the Gf (as I was in overseas), but this was a thrilling game between these two sides. I’m sorry for Brisbane’s loss, but they’ve played exceptionally well this year, winning all home games at Gabba Stadium.
Should be very high ratings, particular in Melbourne & Brisbane (could crack 800k in Brisbane, despite QLD being a traditional NRL State).

  14. Honestly, I’ll never watch a film on FTA ever again, the commercial channels constantly edit the film for time and/or censorship, change the aspect ratio and, for no reason, chop off the opening logos and end credits! At least SBS World Movies and Foxtel’s movie channels show the film as the filmmakers intended it to be seen, even if SBS World Movies has ad breaks during the films.

    1. I agree regarding FTA. SBS has a great selection of films and the ads are usually short. I like that there’s a timer at the end of each film so you know how long until the next one. Is there time for a loo or drink break? Haha. Have not seen Foxtel in ages.

  15. 10 Play sent their weekly e-mail to me. They’re celebrating their ten biggest shows in the past decade. Surprised to see ‘The Amazing Race Australia Celebrity Edition’ at number 7 given that no episode of that have aired yet.

    1. Scott and Charlene didn’t actually purchase it, it was Charlene’s cousin Shane Ramsay who bought it, then last minute pulled out for Mike Young to purchase it as he and Jane reconnected. They now live there, but are overseas and renting the house out AirBnB style to the Varga-Murphy family. They’ll likely purchase Toadies house by the time Jane returns from the UK.

  16. I just finished watching all episodes of The Newsreader on iview. What a great series it has been. Enjoyed it so much. I hope there will be a series 3 in the not too distant future.

  17. I thought that with 7 taking ownership of Prime there would be some improvement in their regional ‘Local News Updates’. No. Wednesday 7 Sydney had full dramatic coverage, ground and air, of a Police car chase from Sydney to Wollongong and halfway back. 7 ‘local’ resorted to their usual old generic stock footage of Police cars, flashing lights, when surely access to the 7 Sydney footage would have been available. Please explain?
