  1. Why is it that “Poker Face” (the Natasha Lyonne mystery show, not the Russell Crowe heist film) is marketed as a Stan Original Series when it is not even a locally made production?

    1. Sometimes if it is exclusive to that platform they’ll mark it as a “Stan original”. Netflix do this with programs such as Riverdale, the CW show.

      1. Very misleading, as it was distributed two years ago by Peacock. There’s a big difference between “original” and “exclusive” but then, misleading promotions is nothing new.

        1. American streamers do it with anything they own exclusive US rights to, even for a very limited time. People watching it like the show so they want them to associate their platform with it. In this context “original” means created by so it is a lie and would exceed the limits of puffery. If anyone cared about the truth anymore, Stan obviously don’t.

  2. NITV –
They air the movie Poltergeist next Thursday night, and a movie double bill of Labyrinth and Mars Attacks on Friday night.

    I guess there’s a logical explanation.

    1. NITV have been airing random movies on Friday nights for some time now, from the above listed, to Lord of the Flees and Beverly Hills Cop, to even a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle marathon a few weeks ago.

I know there are plenty of Australian films they can air on Friday nights. But am not sure why there random movies air on Friday nights either.

        1. NITV “broadcasts programming produced and presented largely by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people”

I suppose “largely” gives them a pass to play anything from The Brady Bunch to MAFS reruns.
Like the “world” does for SBS.

          1. It’s something I’ve raised before with SBS, such as when Batman was screening on VICELAND. Their advice was along the lines of popular shows allows for revenue to go back into commissioning local content.

          2. NITV also serves as a general entertainment channel in some regional areas. SBS used things like The Handmaids Tale and The Good Fight to generate revenue for making their local productions. These days the ad revenue from SBS On Demand is much larger than their TV revenue.

  3. A disappointing performance by the Brokenwood Players on thursday, S9 E1, 9Gem. The setting, props and acting were good but the play’s motive for the crime was weak and the disposal of the murder weapon implausible. There’s a fine line between quirky and silly. I hope they chose better scripts for their next shows.

    1. I liked this…but like most things on 9 they messed around with it too much….I am not chasing a program around…..I gave up investing in series on 9 a long time ago, sadly.

  4. I see Facebook has moved on from David Koch and their fake “sponsored” pages for Crypto scams to Matt Shirvington and Chris Kenny with fake Sunrise screen grabs etc. etc. for some scam site called Revolution 360. The immediate giveaways are the headline “The gift of billionaire philanthropist Chris Kenny has secured the future of common people” and no clock on the screen grabs. And my ANZ Bank statements look nothing like the fake “statement”.

  5. Hi David, ITV1 in the UK is expected to air the ABBA-inspired reality show Mamma Mia: I Have A Dream on October 22. Are there any plans to air it in Australia?

      1. I understand your point, but I am talking about a reality show airing in the UK to find 2 new cast members for the Mamma Mia! musical in the West End, not some rushed-out cheaply made unofficial documentary that airs on Channel 7 as evening filler!

          1. That’s OK. I understand!

But then again, I remember you made a lot of Brady Bunch fans with Foxtel very happy!!! 😉

          2. It happens sometimes. In this case the outcome is for West End performers so it has less relevance in this market. But the songs are always good no matter how often you hear them, so I guess an outside chance.

  6. Stephen Colbert has Covid-did the show from home last night-repeat ep listed tonight. He’s only slightly symptomatic, but will be in isolation for a while.

  7. Has anyone had difficulty recording shows on SBS. I set my DVR to record and most of the time it dose not record shows I set it for. Sometimes randomly it does , X Files and documentaries. It recorded recent show Wolf, Kin and Dark Woods. I wouldn’t record Nine Perfect Strangers , Safe Home, Wisting, Hidden Assets and countless others. is there a block placed on certain shows? Viceland is random some shows again it will allow but had no luck this week with Romulus. No problems on the world movie channel or NITV. i have no issues with recording from any other Commercial Network 7, 9 , 10 and ABC and there subsequent other stations. Can anyone shed any light or have experienced the same issue? Thanks

    1. My recording device has trouble locking onto SBS channels, especially Viceland, it takes 3 or 4 seconds for the picture to appear and sync up with the sound. That can cause a recording fail. I suspected it was something to do with with the compression or audio they were using. If I change channel manually and check it is working, it usually records OK. I have had no trouble with late night shows on SBS recently, Vise La Coeur, Trom, Kin, The X-files, Wisting and Hidden Assets all record fine for me. I did lose 2 episodes of Conversations With Friends though.

  8. A controversial opinion, but I believe The Masked Singer has to be the most underrated of all the reality shows out there! It’s such a fun singing show, even Hughesy’s guesses this season make some iota of sense! Perhaps, they should air either the US or UK versions soon!

    1. November the 3rd is the FTA premier of season 2 … 6 episodes: Nov 3rd -> Dec 8th. Under the Vines the Vines S1 has already had its FTA premier last year & has been & gone from iView.

Under the Vines season 1 is available to watch today in Australia on Prime Video & AcornTV (it’s a AcornTV and TVNZ co-production).

  9. The Block is on…I dont watch but had not changed after ACA …making food/coffee….
Cannot believe people still read those rubbish magazines….another misleading header…but other contestants were all over the article?….I guess that answers my question. 😞

  10. Seriously, are there any people fact checking the news any more. Ch 7 Melbourne news just showed a story on interest rates. The 1st cut away was to a tub of margarine. It had a use by date of September 22. OK, I think that’s where the story is going, people stockpiling food or just ignoring dates to make the mortgage. But no, nothing about that is mentioned. Its just lazy work by the people charged with telling us what’s happening every night…

        1. I started an office job in 2004, the year prior 7News filmed our floor showing staff working. That became footage they would use for at least 5 years whenever they needed footage of office staff. It became very dated as it still showed CRT monitors on every desk as the switche over to LCD happened shortly after.

    1. I guess you don’t live in regional NSW, or even Wollongong, where the same ancient stock footage of Police and Ambulance vehicles with flashing lights are used as overlays to every car accident story, the same car splashing through a road hole and same trees waving in the wind for every wet weather story, and so on and so forth. You haven’t seen lazy news work until you’ve had to suffer the 20-secs “news update” inflicted by regional 7 and 10. Weird thing is they don’t even take vision from 7 or 10 in Sydney for the same story.

  11. BBC1 in the uk, aired part 1 of the reckoning, starring Steve Coogan, and is about Jimmy Saville. Any idea on if any network/streaming service has the rights for australia and when we might see it?

  12. It appears that the ABC have bought some repeat rights for Mythbusters (ex SBS). Season 9 is on ABC TV plus and 1,2&3 are on iView. Brings back some memories. Walk don’t run in the rain to get less wet and better with an umbrella even if it’s converted into a gun.
