  1. The Neighbours Finale aired a year ago to the day. And got awesome ratings.

A year later, the few loyal fans (here in Aus) are waiting patiently for its return in September. Hopefully to a good timeslot.

  2. RIP Sinead O’Connor. For those interested the Showtime doco Nothing Compares is available on SBS on demand after screening last month. David wrote about it on 8 June, I found it a fascinating watch and would highly recommend.

    1. DCJ, thank you. I was on the bus when I heard the radio announcer state that she had died. Nothing Compares is one of my favourite songs.

  3. Woweeee that penultimate episode of AppleTV+‘s ‘Hijack’ was excellent… and that final 10 minutes rivalled the best 10 minute stretch of any show this year. So tense.
Secret Invasion (Disney+) was solid too, in what has been a fairly lean year for great TV… it largely repelled the typical Marvel fare (save for a brief suped up fight toward the end), the low key, back-alley type way it was presented was refreshing even though I’m a massive fan of anything Marvel does. I thought the way they handled a few important characters who were killed off throughout the show was poor though… and it kind of just ended abruptly. But all in all it was enjoyable.
Utopia S5 (iView) is always consistently whip smart with its satire and farcical nature of working in a Government office… but like the previous few series, I had an issue with the show feeling a little bit samey from week to week. There doesn’t seem to be any character development at all… It is always very funny though…

    1. Turns out it was a repeat of a French made doco with a very abrupt ending-did poorly in the ratings on a generally pretty lacklustre night.

  4. We are up to date 9 of the hunt on Hunted and the Hunters are yet to change their clothes. They must at some point because the publicity photo has them in other clothes ….

  5. I think the BarbieQs segment on Have You Been Paying Attention tonight just became one of my favourite TV moments of the year. I’m not sure Tommy G thought this through….

  6. Don’t know about everyone else but watching the John Farnham Doco is diminished by the stupid vote Sonya Kruger for the gold Logie that comes up far too often in the corner of the screen …

  7. Come on Sunrise. I know you want to show off your big new studio, (that to me looks very ABCish), but your bottom of screen banners and tickers don’t need to take up 20% of the screen. Sometimes things happen down that part of the screen that we now miss, such as not being able to see the winning putt at the British Open during a sport segment this morning…

    1. Sunrise’s new set is terrible. It is so bright with white. yellow and pale orange. There is little contrast. The banners are pale orange with white text, I can’t read the text from my seat. Go back to bold, black text please. The temperatures on the weather map can’t be read with white numbers on orange backgrounds.

      1. I think it’s also missing something not having people in the background like there were at Martin Place. When we have visited Sydney from Perth we always tried to head down and watch through the window and often we’d get a wave.

    1. I was just thinking last week that it had been a while since we got one of your programming notifications Pete. Good to see you’re still dishing them up.

        1. Thanks to you both …. Truth is David is so on the ball that most new programming is already reported … it is like a family on this site …all looking out for each other ….nice

  8. Has Jacinta Stapleton been confirmed as returning to neighbours.?? Also will prime video streaming earlier seasons like from the 90s and early 2000’s?

  9. Just tripped over the fact that Season 3 of the British series ‘Guilt’ has recently finished playing out on BBC First. Gee, that one slipped by all/most of us.

  10. Has 911 – Lone Star lost its way?? Have ex WWE writers taken over the show, as this weeks whole episode was nothing more than advancement of underlying storylines. There wasn’t even one 911 call for a rescue. If this is what we are going to get from here on in, maybe “Lone Star Lives” is a more reflective title…

  11. Can anyone tell me if we have had the last final episode for Silent Witness? I thought there was one left but Endeavour is back on tonight.

    1. Season 25 of Silent Witness finished on the ABC two weeks ago, they are on iView if you missed any. Endeavour started from the beginning on 72 last Monday.

        1. The British have a habit of doing their pilots as a TVM. Once the series goes into production they distribute it separately. You rarely get to see the pilots for Lewis or New Trick too.

  12. According to the MyCastingNet page, Australia is getting it’s own version of Tough as Nails! (The American version is hosted by The Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan)

Filming appears to take 5 weeks from October 2023…

  13. I have Foxtel Plus but I cannot understand their model They just keep repeating most of the content and repeat a particular episode several times in a 24 hour period. Why not have it available on streaming ? Can you explain David ?

    1. Not sure what Foxtel Plus is… but if you mean scheduling, cable has always worked on “block” programming where titles are available at several junctures across a day / week. Some channels will have more variety than others which depends on channel genre and distribution. Most profile titles will be available as On Demand so you have the choice as to how you prefer to watch.

      1. Foxtel Plus is what they are calling Basic now they have added some more stuff to it and raised the price. It is much of their offerings except for Sport and Movies.

      2. Foxtel Plus is their basic pack 50 channels, I do not see ‘Basic’ as such on their website. I am on sattelite near Melbourne, On Demand looks a bit expensive.

    2. Foxtel are dumping even more channels in a few weeks with the removal of MTV (Ch. 122), Nickelodeon (Ch. 701), and Nick Jr (Ch. 703) from 1 August. This comes off the back of a recent price rise and the removal of the 3 beIN SPORTS channels, PBS Kids and National Geographic channels. Hard to justify having it.

      1. That’s interesting. Nickelodeon is supposed to be moving to free-to-air. But MTV is one of the biggest names in subscription TV. Having said that, MTV isn’t what it used to be. Only MTV Germany seem to be retaining the older style music bloc programming classics. The type of music video programming that I will gladly pay for. And Channel V Australia. The viewers are still here, but are not catered for anymore.

I don’t think subscription TV should be as simple as generic programming that is repetitive. That’s what probably loses subscribers when they get bored and say I’ve seen this before. Sports and news seem to be keeping it afloat.

  14. Does anyone know why H&A is being bumped to 7Two on Thursday night for NSW this week? Usually the AFL is on 7Mate. Is it a big game for the Sydney Swans – I thought they were out of finals contention?

  15. Andrea Evans best known for playing Tina Lord (One Life to Live), Patty Williams (Young & Restless), Tawny Moore (Bold and the Beautiful) and Rebecca Hotchkiss (Passions) has sadly passed away. 😭

  16. I’ve somehow stumbled onto the RTE (Irish Public Broadcaster) scandal on tiktok… secret slush funds, massive secret payments funneled to their top “talent”, under reporting salaries, huge hospitality bills for concerts, booze and football games. Top people losing jobs, board all stood down. Fascinating stuff.

      1. Normal people originally aired as 12 x~30 minute episodes which would be best. It aired as 6 x ~1hr is some places and SBS On Demand had it 8 x ~43m. SBS stuck episodes together that sometimes went together but others had jumps 6 month and changes in location in inbetween them. Their episode synopses were all out of sync which made it more confusing.

  17. Okay, I feel like I should preface this by acknowledging it’s not exactly highly intellectual viewing, but Come Dine With Me is almost line soul food after a stressful day at work.

That said, since about two or three days ago it’s gone missing from SBS On Demand and I can’t find any hint of it on any other platform (other than The Professionals on Binge).

As an interim, there is VPNing it to Channel 4, but is there any news about it coming back or moving somewhere else locally?

    1. It gets mentioned a bit. My relatives watch it. It’s amateur unlike MasterChef, though it’s watched for entertainment.

There was a poll question as to whether content should remain permanently on the on-demand services. Yes it should. There should be more choice and variety.

  18. For news services (as well as Sunrise/Today) what is the cut-off point for a “breaking news” story for it to no longer be considered as breaking news? is it 8-10 hrs from an overnight/overseas story, and 1-2 hrs for a local story?
