Price change for Foxtel from Nov 1

Foxtel is increasing the price of its basic package and dropping the price of HD channels from November 1st.

Foxtel is increasing the price of its basic package and dropping the price of HD channels from November 1st.

The price change is time to coincide with the launch of extra channels.

The new channels are MTV Hits, MTVN Live & SPEED, as well as four additional High Definition channels – MTVN Live HD, SPEED HD, BBC Knowledge HD, Nat Geo Wild HD; and dedicated 3D channel – Foxtel 3D.

Yesterday it announced On Demand Internet TV service with additional fees to accress TV and Movies via the internet. But it will replace some offerings that had been available.

A spokesperson told TV Tonight, “This comprehensive pay per view service replaces the existing Foxtel Box Office service and therefore customers who previously received Box Offices movies as part of their package will no longer get these.

“As a result of these additions to the Foxtel service we have adjusted the price of some of our packages, meaning that while some customers will experience a modest price increase, other customers’ packages will remain the same price or even decrease.”

New prices are available here.

  1. No I wasn’t given a choice of the 6 channels. They are Sky News, Fox Sports News, W, 111 Hits, History and Comedy Channel. They suit me for the moment, Sky News in particular.

  2. To all those complaining about the price……have you ever thought about Not paying for it…. If you cant afford it then dont get it – simple.

mind you, Telstra have some pretty good deals with that T-Box of theirs – apparently you can get Foxtel on it as well (or comming soon or something)

  3. Foxtel should just keep the prices just the way they are, but add Comedy, E!, LifeStyle FOOD, Universal, W, Discovery Home & Health, SCI FI, UKTV, Style Network and 13th Street and make them available as well as MTV on the Get Started package from November 1!

The Prices should stay as follows:
    Get Started $42
    Kids & Music $16
    Knowledge & Adventure $16
    Sports $16
    2 Movie Packs $16
    HD $16

  4. So Josh. You don’t think $85 a month is fair for what you get, yet you pay it. That is why Foxtel charge what they do – people might complain a bit but end up forking out the bucks anyway. It’s the Telstra mantra – charge twice as much for half the product and hope that people’s inertia will prevent you from haemorrhaging too many customers.

  5. These changes have actually made me upgrade to IQ2. I’m sure foxtel is banking on people like me to offset people leaving over minimal price increases.

  6. After 14 years of foxtel at home, i’m cancelling it. Way too many ad’s & foxtel promo’s plus repeats of show’s i have seen over and over. Now with 7mate, GO!, 7 TWO, C31 on the free to air digital, i can watch these channels & not pay a cent. Bye Bye foxtel

  7. FetchTV enticing? Good one,.

Half the channels for a price that’s barely less than Foxtels basic package? Plus a requirement to buy or rent BoB (a steaming pile at the best of times), a requirement to hook up a FTA antenna, very limited availability, and the sacrifice to Internet speeds? Not to mention the immaturity of the system and lack of reliability?

No, I think Foxtel execs can sleep perfectly well at night.

FetchTV are suffering delusions of grandeur, and would have been better off offering a service that lets me watch these channels on my PC or Mac, without silly BoB or a lame set top box.

  8. @ Russell – couldnt agree more! I actually have said this >5 times on the Austar Facebook page (cause its quicker than email or calling by phone =p) and they have said nothing back! I said to them the works should be between $80 and $90. I wrote: “Starter pack to $25, each option pack can be $7, the movie packs and sports pack $10 – that totals $76.” Like atm i have basic, 3 options and sports and am paying $85, now how the hell is that fair? Thats a portion of my monthly wage disappearing for not nearly enough. And Definitely HD access should be free! We’re already paying for the HD box, why do we have to than pay more? And a sore point for Austar is that they are owned by the same people as DirecTV in the U.S. and they currently charging $60 for the works (which is 285+ SD and 115+ HD) and than $7 for a HD box with free HD access, and yet Austar want $115 for 100+ SD channels 16 HD channels and $15 for a HD box with an extra $5 for HD channels. (all those stats may be a lil off cause its off the top of my head =p). Now how is that fair? If Austar dont listen to my FB comments by the end of the year they are getting a Very nasty call off me >.<

  9. Every time I think about Foxtel I look at the channels I’d actually watch, add up how much it’d cost me, and decide to stick with FTA. You’d have to watch 6-8 hrs of TV seven days a week to even consider it worth the money! Probably more. You really do need to have no life (or particularly inactive children) to pay for TV.

With cheap Internet plans all over the place nowadays why would anyone pay through the nose for last century’s entertainment technology?

  10. Foxtel & Austar just need pricing that is simple & fair. If they made the prices reasonable they would have a lot more subscribers and subscribers that would stay with them. At the moment the basic cable package is $44, then each “tier” is $16 and each movie and sport package is $16. HD is then $10. The most popular channels – the Fox Sports channels are not in basic (in the US – ESPN is always in basic)

Foxtel should have pricing something like:

    Basic: $30
    Tier 1 extra 15 channels: $10
    Tier 2 another 15 channels: $10
    Showtime: $10
    Movie Network $10
    HD: Free

    That’s it!

  11. To be honest the price adjustments aren’t outrageous but I was kinda hoping for a significant reduction when I read the headline. They’re lucky I have no life!
