Is this the end for Prison Break?

The season finale for the strike-affected third season of Prison Break airs in the US today. As we all know, the drama is king at putting its characters in seemingly-impossible situations, only to find a way out. Could it be a metaphor for the show itself?

There is no clear picture on whether the show will continue on.

FOX is yet to greenlight a fourth series.

TVGuide guru Michael Ausiello reports that its status is “T.B.D.” And by the looks of things, some critics are hoping for the end.

The Boston Herald says the show should have ended at Season One: “If ever there was a series that outstayed its welcome, it’s Prison Break. There’s only so long you can string out its premise, and by rights, it should have reached its end when the boys broke out……Fox should pardon its viewers and give them early parole. We’ve done our time. We don’t need any more of this crime.”

But show writer Nick Santora is more optimistic, saying, “A fourth season of Prison Break has not been officially picked up yet. But our next season is NEVER picked up this early in the year, so that doesn’t mean much. I disagree with Ausiello. I believe we will be picked up for a 4th season. I can’t guarantee it. I just feel it will happen. So don’t worry about rumors from reporters … if the show is getting cancelled, as soon as I know, I will tell you guys. But like I said, I don’t think it is going to happen. I have faith.”

Failing any new production soon, Seven Network will have 5 new episodes to air….at some point.

Don’t stop PRISON BREAK now … just when we get that Aussie hottie in it!

I haven’t watched Season 3 yet. I disagree that Prison Break should have ended after Season 1, as all TV dramas today survive after one season. I hope that PB can make it past Season 3.

I quite liked this season as opposed to the 2nd. Shame it ended tonight. Good end though. I hope it keeps going.

Being one of many Aussies waiting for the finale to air, I wish that the show had stopped at season 2. All the pieces were there for a good conclusion… and then Fox got greedy and wanted more.

Season 3 has taken convenience and contrivance in the plots to new heights, and I can only presume that a fourth season will continue this trend. Let’s just hope for a reasonably satisfying end to this season.

i wouldn’t be too fussed if they cancelled it, to be honest. I loved it in season 1 and liked it in season 2, but i thought it should have ended there. It just felt that they would never get anywhere in the plot, with all the terrible things happening, so i stopped watching it.

However i do agree that if loose ends weren’t tied up then the networks should do it justice and let it play out. Nobody likes an abrupt, unplanned ending.

The finale screen in the US was meant as a mid-season finale but the writer’s srike got in the way.

No way they could have wrapped up the season so quickly after establishing complex plot elements.

If it the end I’d be very dissapointed!

Sure there were some silly twists and surprises along the way, but Prison Break is a fun ride.

I’ve been keeping up to speed with the US screenings and I would hate if season 3 finished up being half a season without wrapping up all the loose ends. Season 3 took a long time to develop but it’s turned out quite well.

I think it would be pushing credibility for a new full season, but want a satisfactory ending!
