Logie nominations near

Monday morning the 50th TV WEEK Logie nominations are revealed.

In a practice mirroring the Oscars announcements, they are to be announced at a breakfast ceremony at Sydney’s Luna Park at 8am. You can see them live on Sunrise (and presumably on Today).

This year we can hope for a shaking up of candidates, given the process was extended to online voting via a number of sources. It is no longer confined to magazine buyers.

Who will be named for Gold Logie contention? TV Tonight expects Chris Lilley to be a big favourite, amongst both popular votes and the peer-voted categories. It would be a surprise indeed if he didn’t make the Gold nominees.

The Herald-Sun claims it has heard a leak that Lisa McCune is one of eight candidate who has been nominated for the Gold.

And how about Kate Ritchie, Rove McManus, John Howard, Claudia Karvan, Adam Hills? Where will Gina Riley and Jane Turner land? What about Silver nods for Sonia Kruger, Shane Bourne, Nadine Garner, Grant Denyer, Daniel MacPherson? And in all the categories will viewers remember the big targets of Daryl Somers, Eddie McGuire, Bert Newton, Gretel Killeen, Kerri-Anne Kennerley and Kochie?

In the peer-voted categories look for nods to The King, The Circuit and Love My Way.

  1. Thanks David!

Aren’t the votes audited by Price Waterhouse or some other accounting firm? I don’t see how they could rig the votes when they’re independently audited. I’d say a shocking win like “E Street” back in 1992 would be more likely if the public were voting than the networks, because that show was only popular for a year or so thanks to the “Mr Bad” storyline. Even industry heavyweights like Daryl Somers have commented on how the public and the networks often have different opinions (e.g. when
“Hey Hey It’s Saturday” won a Logie after it had been axed – you’d think the Nine network would have vetoed that particular win to avoid any embarrassment if they’d really had a say over what went on).

  2. I agree about the rigged voting, last year I had a campaign to get Nikki Osborne nominated for best new talent and I know of heaps of votes that went through and people who bought multiple copies of TV WEEK for the barcodes.

But the network didn’t want anyone from Quizmania nominated so I believe, so all that money and time voting was for nothing! She would have been nominated otherwise.

and now the flaming begins cause I mentioned a late night quiz show haha

  3. I voted for Jackie for the best actress & Kate for gold – I have a feeling Kate Ritchie will get the gold again this year – it’s been an amazing year for her & with her finishing up on Home & Away it would be nice for her to win the gold again!

  4. I always vote and have done for many years. I also vote for the Gold Logie. Hopefully, Kate Ritchie will get across the line again this year – she really, really deserves it! Gretel Killeen also deserves recognition in the hosting category. Love her or hate her, she really was the driving force behind BB and the show will not be the same without her. Chris Lilley deserves acting awards in both categories (peer and popular).

TV Week has all of the past winners up online for every year since the Logies began (which is great!), but I’d also love to see a detailed list of the nominees from each year. David, do you know if these are available anywhere (other than the relevant issue of TV Week from each year)? I’d love to know about nominations for shows such as “Prisoner”.

  5. Being someone who has worked for both C9 and C7 in the past, I can tell you now that for a very long time the Logies have been fixed and the public never votes its winners. (there isn’t even enough votes from the public to count) Thats the truth.
