It’s now a year since Lisa WIlkinson was recruited by Nine from Weekend Sunrise to co-host Today with Karl Stefanovic. After on-going woes with various chair-fillers, Nine has certainly turned a corner.
No longer are there regular headlines about disastrous ratings and behind-the-scenes sniping (they’ve all been turned to fiction in ‘Boned’ anyway).
Sunrise still has a formidable lead, but Today has gained good ground -especially in Melbourne where it is a regular winner. On Monday the national figures were Sunrise: 366,000, Today: 285,000.
For the post 9am slot Seven’s lead remains. On Monday The Morning Show had 200,000, while Kerri-Anne was 137,000. 9AM with David and Kim was only 71,000.
As for Weekend Sunrise, on Sunday May 18 it nearly tripled Sunday.

I do not mind Kochie, as he is the monkey of Sunrise. I do not mind the program, but if there is one thing that I do not like, it is Mel. Get rid of her and have Nat co-host it for once.
lol richtob your a tricky one! hehe, You hate just about everything without a cosmic/dark/sci-fi but you like Karl Stefanovic? Maybe its because he is so robot like he appeals to you! (bad-dum-tishhh)
You said in the Supernatural thread about the show going stale because the characters are dying and being resurrected, but isn’t that what happened in Buffy like 4 or 5 times over its seven seasons?
I enjoy Karl, he’s a good presenter and has got a likable personality that keeps me more interested than Sunrise does. If anything its the woman who’s rather stiff… I don’t know her name, can’t really be bothered to. It really depends on what they’re presenting, I don’t think one is better than the other. If Sunrise is reporting on a topic that I find boring or irrelevant I change to Today, and vice versa. Come to think of it its the only time I watch TV on an actual TV, for around 10 minutes in the morning when I’m eating breakfast. Its more interesting than anything on primetime television nowadays anyway
Kochie is boring Australia…he talks the talk but doesnt deliver..while Mel just sits there and giggles…flick over and youve got two people on today who take the P#ss out of each other and it works…its good telly and when something serious happens we all turn to 9 anyway…don’t change Today…its just a matter of time
Numbers were very close this morning. Only a matter of time before Today gets on top.

hat made Sunrise so good over the last few years was the weather crosses with Grant and then Monique. Each day you had a postcard of a different part of Australia, Now all you get is boring David Brown.
Nine has continued their weather with Steve Jacobs and it ads to the program.
I did notice that Sunrise had Monique on location twice last week, that’s what they need. Less Kochie and more Monique.
I’m not surprised Today’s ratings are rising. There’s only so much “Kochie” a body can absorb in a lifetime and I think for many that limit has been reached.
It’s Karl, they gotta ditch Karl, he’s a stiff!!
The guy who does the sports has at least a bit more personality.
