Friends rally for our Don

The manager of Don Lane has denied the veteran entertainer has dementia.

Jayne Ambrose said the 74-year-old had recently been moved from his home to a care facility. He had been there “not long” and was physically fine.

Asked about reports Lane had dementia she said: “Certainly that is inaccurate, that report. Don is very physically fine and he is in care,” she said.

But Lane’s long-time friend Chris Kearns today told Fairfax radio: “Don is suffering from dementia, he is not well.”

There are also reports that Bert Newton has flown to Sydney to be with Lane during this time.

The Don Lane Show ran on the Nine Network from the 1970s until 1983. Later he returned to commentate his love of NBL for the ABC. “The “lanky Yank” won more than 15 Logies during his career and in 2003 he was inducted in the Australian Logies Hall of Fame.

Last year when he appeared on the Today show to plug his biography Lane was unable to answer a question about why Bert Newton wasn’t in his book more.

  1. Just wanted to pass onto Don that people around the world are watching an interview Don did with Cliff Richard on You Tube.

Cliff begins a Reunion Tour with the Shadows in the UK in September 2009.

There are plans to release Cliff and the Shadows singing “Singing the Blues” on September 14th in the UK, just before the tour begins.

It seems the only TV appearance of Cliff singing this song was on a Don Lane Show.

Hope you are able to get this message to Don. He may get some enjoyment from watching this episode.
