Neighbours searches for a star

Neighbours will launch another casting search through Dolly magazine, looking for one male and one female between the ages of 12 and 17.

The winners will score a six-week contract to appear on the soap with the possibility of extension.

In 2006 Adelaide Kane who played Lolly, and Sam Clark (pictured) were uncovered, the latter proving so popular with fans he was nominated for a Logie as Best New Talent.

Neighbours continues to combine both traditional and unconventional ways of sourcing it on air talent, including reality TV graduates, some of whom have certainly succeeded. Others have gained entry via music and modelling as well as the stock standard theatre, film, actor-training and agency routes. Meanwhile, casting director and producer Jan Russ remains an industry force after more than 23 years with the show.

Prospective applicants should look out for a script printed in the upcoming issue of Dolly.

  1. I agree with Leo. Let’s experiment with DIVERSITY a bit. They clearly cannot be Home & Away. I’d like to see a gay male character, some characters from other countries (and I don’t mean England/Ireland)… it’s such an obvious solution yet another they refuse to take.

  2. Anything that gives our talented young people a chance is good in my book. Both were nominated for best New Commer Logies this year – Adeliade hasnt been on the show for months & was still nominated – so the voters must have liked her.
Neighbours needs a gay character too – the girl a few years ago was good – maybe a nice hunky gay guy is what the show needs to kick it into over drive!

  3. They don’t seem to learn from their mistakes. Viewers want decent actors on Neighbours not amateur competition winners that can’t act. It’s very hit and miss. Adelaide Kane was very bad but Sam Clark has been pretty good. Why do they keep damaging the reputation of the show with these sorts of stunts?
They already have the whole teen market watching the show anyway, they should be trying to lure the older viewers away from the current affairs rubbish.

  4. The last time they did this we got one dud and possibly the worst regular actor that’s ever been on Neighbours in Adelaide Kane. Oh the humanity! Lucky she was so gorgeous it didn’t matter so much! They were redeemed to some extent by Sam Clark who is likeable and a decent actor for a kid who hasn’t had any training.

  5. “WANTED: Two teenagers to be the next big stars of TV series Neighbours. Acting skills a bonus but some singing talent may come in handy later.”

Acting skills are a bonus, just what you want to hear from a soap, I would say acting skills are essential, as for siging talent may come in handy, god I am already bored of these characters.

  6. Wow, they ARE desperate. Adelaide Kane wasn’t a very good actress, although she was nominated for a Logie this year.

I don’t see how they think this will translate into ratings success. Perhaps the people looking into auditioning will watch the show once or twice, and then their will be a little bit of hype, and that’s probably it.

This is yet another attempt at rejuvenation for Neighbours that won’t work. I think their are so many amazing options they have that they will not take, and ultimately it’s going to screw over the show. Even right down to the leaked song Caitlin Stasey and Dean Geyer performed- that was quite successful online, so why would you not release it to radio, etc? Sigh.

    What do you think, David?
