Here to talk business

Tim Campbell says media attention on his sexuality he has received since coming out last year has been “boring”.

“It has been a bit like that to be honest,” Tim, told news.com.au. “I get that it’s interesting but it has so been done to death.

“I do get asked about it a lot, especially when I was doing Wheel Of Fortune press.

“And it’s something that I think, you know what, I’m not ashamed to talk about it but by the same token I’m there to talk about my show.

“It’s kind of never been a big deal to me, my whole life.

“And it’s still not. So I think, if I don’t make it a big deal, then it’s not.”

Campbell adds that he is keen to look at acting roles with Nine.

“(Nine bosses) Michael Healy and David Gyngell have both said that they want me to diversify and I don’t know. Underbelly, Sea Patrol … they are filming The Strip now, so there are plenty of options,” he said.

It’s hard to know in what context this subject came up (again). As is the way of media, there’s every possibility Campbell was giving an interview on Celebrity Singing Bee and a journo asked about his personal life. The media have certainly been ‘captivated’ by having two name, gay celebrities dating.

In fact the article’s heading even went as far to dub Campbell “a gay icon,” notably not his own words. Personally I’d have thought Elton John or Kylie were gay icons….

  1. Strewth, this is news to me. I’m all for having more openly gay people on TV but Tim Campbell? One of the most irritating people on TV?!? Why on earth couldn’t it have been Eddie MacGuire!

  2. I do think his non-chalant atittude is a positive, but of course the media will focus on it. Don’t like it? Stick to theatre, or don’t become an actor.

  3. He seems like such a nice bloke.

It would be annoying to be asked constantly, especially when trying to promote your career.

I wonder though, would he have slipped into obscurity if he didn’t come out in the media or wasn’t dating Callea? Two failed game shows and a DWTS win don’t equal longevity in the industry.

Hard to say what would have happened… but any publicity is good publicity Mr Campbell.
