90210, Burn Notice, Torchwood ten minutes later

By David Knox on September 14, 2008 / Filed Under Programming 23

This Monday night most TEN shows are pushed back by ten minutes due to a 70 minute edition of Australian Idol -and this all because of the same show that they admitted had been ten minutes of interest padded out to sixty…

As a result Monday night’s schedule will be:
7:00 Taken Out
7:30 Australian Idol
8:40 90210
9:40 Burn Notice
10:40 Ten Late News With Sports Tonight
11:25 The Late Show With David Letterman

TEN HD:
7:00 Taken Out
7:30 Australian Idol
8:40 90210
9:40 Burn Notice
10:40 Torchwood
11:40 Monday Late Night Movie – Terminal Invasion

It’s pretty silly of TEN not to be tougher on Idol to cut some of the excess talk and cut to the chase. It would make the show tighter and more interesting as well as keeping other viewers happier.

PT Ryan, I never watch Idol on TV because I know what channel 10 are like. I wonder how many people tape it instead of watching it when it airs?

Just read this.. if it means i missed the end of torchwood taped on my iq2… i will be pissed off!

yes tony r what state are you in? do you normally get to see 10HD shows, did you see torchwood last week? coz it came on here in QLD, if you usually get to see it it must be a local issue.

  5. David Knox September 15, 2008 at 11:51 pm -

    Which state?

  6. Tony R September 15, 2008 at 11:46 pm -

    nah, still hasn’t come on
    how annoying
i looked on the ten website, its not listed as being on tonight anymore, and the same with the EPG data going to my tv from the tv station and icetv guide doesn’t have it either :(

Probably a late start (thanks Idol…. it should have been 10:45pm) but it’s definitely on.

Hey, I’m just watching TEN HD and Torchwood has not come on. They even played the ad for it at the end of Burn Notice (awesome show) and then went into their “HD Demonstration” and haven’t gone into anything else in the last 15 minutes. What’s going on?????

  9. PT Ryan September 15, 2008 at 2:59 pm -

It’s done on purpose to stop you changing to another channel. As for Torchwood, well, Ten have done far worse to it in the past, as anyone who waited (and waited…and waited) for the post-BB2007-finale ep to start last year. That motivated me to stop watching Ten’s airings and download the whole thing instead, and I’d already seen the whole second season long before TenHD got to it.

What is so hard about starting on time? All Idol needs to do is have a quick five minute interval before the 8:30 program to announce the results. It’s ridiculous waiting a whole hour (and now an extra ten minutes).

I’m really, really glad Burn Notice is back. When they had that double episode before the premiere of 90210, I was afraid it was gone for good. But when I saw it advertised, I was thrilled.

I’m actually sort of surprised Idol finished on time last night. I had to stop my tape to tape Private Practice and Dancing With The Bloody “Stars” was still going!

Unfortunately, they won’t change until substantially more viewers abandon free to air due to their deceitful tactics.

Craig, they’re not admitting to their viewers the schedule’s going to run late. The ad they ran for Burn Notice tonight proudly declared it would be on at 9.30.

This sort of thing is why I now have to permanently set post-timer padding on my PVR to the tune of 25 minutes.

i agree with bindi, ten do usually run their programs on time or sometimes even earlier! (by a min or two LOL) but seven is always overtime my god.

Fair enough … blog mechanics still new ground to me.

Interesting that tonight 60 Minutes ran 70. Happens a bit now … maybe they need to change the graphics and title.

Very strong show though – should rate well.

  15. David Knox September 14, 2008 at 9:59 pm -

Not really…. all the shows remain bumped by 10 mins because Idol stays at 7:30 – 8:40pm.

Also, the format of the blog is archival…..newer posts override older ones, if I had to go back and correct older posts for new shows I’d be here forever. Taken Out change is logged in Programming after this item was posted.

This article is a tad redundant given TEN’s Taken Out change?

“It’s pretty silly of TEN not to be tougher on Idol to cut some of the excess talk and cut to the chase. It would make the show tighter and more interesting as well as keeping other viewers happier”

It’s mind blowing isn’t it… they might do programming better than Nine and Seven but they don’t do it welll either.

channel 7 is always running like 6 or 7 mins late anyway, lately 10 have been pretty good at running on time, mostly coz they need to sync up with the HD station i think. so yes this is probably on purpose for whatever reason, but atleast the 10 EPG will actually list times that are close to correct, the 7 one sure doesn’t, the one episode of ugly betty we got to see recently was like 17 mins late or something ridiculous like that, and they listed family guy at 10:20 when it was more like 10:35. this change doesn’t really affect me, just a slight adjustment to the PVR settings and it’s fine.

  19. Craig September 14, 2008 at 4:55 pm -

Well at least they admit it’s running over, wait does this mean 90210 with start at 8:45-8:50? LOL

Zambora – City Homicide is at 8:30 and Burn Notice is on at 9:40 so you an catch both.

  20. Zambora September 14, 2008 at 2:43 pm -

    Silly, silly move.

As much as I like Burn Notice – my choice is City Homicide.
If both started as 8.30 it would be close to 50-50 call BUT foolishly delaying start by 10 mins gets meangry and I trun away.

Networks take note – 8.30 start is better than 8.34 or 8.40.

  21. Southpatt September 14, 2008 at 1:59 pm -

Methinks it is more a ploy to over-run the start times of other Networks.

Doesn’t work, I just chase them with my Twin tuner pvr :)

    ridiculous idol idol idol

  23. Benno September 14, 2008 at 1:14 pm -

Why is it that American Idol can manage to cut to the chase and have a half hour verdict without needing to go overtime, yet Australian Idol can’t manage to fit it all in with an hour show?
