Day One to strike disaster

By David Knox on January 30, 2009 / Filed Under News 10

earth-closeAmerican studios have given the greenlight to some interesting pilot ideas, on catastrophes, legal, cops and TV news.

Writer Jesse Alexander (Heroes, Alias, Lost) will write a post-apocalyptic drama pilot Day One, about a catastrophic global event that destroys the world’s infrastructure. The action centres on a small group of survivors. The Day After anyone….?

ABC Studios will pilot I, Claudia set in the world of a young prosecuting attorney who will one day be a contender for the presidency.

Meanwhile, Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes will revisit an idea on television news. Having twice attempted to develop a drama about war correspondents, Rhimes will now produce Inside the Box, set in a Washington D.C. network news bureau. Good luck Shonda, with a handful of exceptions, shows about TV are notoriously tough.

ABC additionally picked up an untitled pilot based on the Argentinian series Brothers and Detectives from Daniel Cerone (Dexter). It follows a Savannah police detective who discovers, after his father dies, that he has an 11-year-old brother with a genius IQ. The detective winds up partnering with his young brother, who helps him solve crimes.

Any news on that show with ties to Snow White, but was set in a law firm with the dwarves being the partners or people in here work place or something?? I’m a little vague on the details.

Day One sounds truly interesting, hopefully it will succeed where Jericho should have.

Day One sounds awesome, it could be a fun new serial show like Jericho and how Lost and Prison Break were in their earlier seasons, although it might go the My Own Worst Enemy route and get axed within a couple of weeks. I’ve enjoyed Jesse Alexander’s work in the past, I actually thoroughly enjoyed his work this season on Heroes unlike a lot of critics, so this new show of his should be worth a shot.

As for the others, BL and Eli were great legal shows, so I won’t bother watching a new one. Well, maybe the Hilary Duff one, out of pure tribute to my old 12 year old fan. New cop show: snooze

Day One sounds a bit like Jericho, but on a larger scale. I’m interested.

how many legal-based shows do the yanks need. david e keely is making legally mad, NBC is making barely legal with hilary duff. and now I,Claudia.

it’s surprising given Eli Stone was great and had little interest, and long time performer; Boston legal, stopped scoring the way it used to.

You’re on the money there Darren… but if the brotehr is only 11 it adds to the “cute” factor. Charlie ain’t cute on Numb3rs

Is it just me or does the unnamed pilot based on ‘Brothers and Detectives’ just sound like Numb3rs?

I was going to say the same GuanoLad, if theEstateof TerryNation still own the rights to Survivors they are probaly thinking about suing.

The UK just made a remake of the 70s series “Survivors”. I wonder if “Day One” is in any way influenced by that.
