Moonface on Matthew’s mooning

TV legend Bert Newton has spoken about his son Matthew’s appearance in Underbelly, and says it was an “unusual experience” to see him in naked romps.

“It was sort of like opening a bedroom door,” he said.

“I thought, well, the only way to get around this is to think of him as just another actor and try to push past it.

“I know that he was happy doing it though it was pretty hard work for him because everyone points to the fact of the nudity and the sex.

“But it’s the highest rating television drama ever in Australia and he hasn’t worked it out yet but one episode got to 2.8* million people and I’ve never done a show that reached that many people.”

After a career spanning more than 55 years, the four-time Gold Logie winner is happy for his son to have some of the spotlight.

“(Matthew) has done it all by himself,” he said. “Sometimes, because you’ve been around for a long time, it can open the door but once you get in there the doors are closed.”

Of course Newton ,70, has been fronting a racier version of 20 1 himself.

On the weekend some papers also reported Matthew Newton was enjoying a partying weekend.

Newton said Matthew is currently promoting a new film he wrote, directed and produced.
