Planet Earth to acknowledge Earth Hour

Not many networks seem to be acknowledging Earth Hour but BBC HD has a gotten into the green mood this Saturday.

planetearth_apeNot many networks seem to be acknowledging Earth Hour which falls at 8:30pm Saturday night.

But BBC HD has a gotten into the green mood with a marathon of the natural hitory series Planet Earth.

It will air from 11am until “lights out” at 8:30pm.

Four years in the making, the series moves  from the world’s greatest rivers and gorges to the mightiest mountains, to underground world of caves and caverns andvast deserts.

planet-earth_penguinsPlanet Earth is the first BBC natural history series to be filmed entirely in High Definition and is narrated by David Attenborough.

The BBC HD Channel didn’t say whether it’s actually going off the air at 8:30pm, but I’m presuming they won’t complain if you turn them off for an hour…

  1. Never been too keen on the Earth Hour thing – much more useful to save eletricity etc. on an everyday basis. Planet Earth is an absolutely beautiful documentary, though.

  2. yeh earth hour really does nothing to help the environment. Companies and people that support it are all show and no action. If they were that into preserving the environment they would live it out each day, not just for 1 hour each year.

  3. Never understood why some of the ideas Earth Hour raises are not put into place all the time. For example – most buildings in Sydney turn their lights off for that hour or longer. Why not have unecessary lights off all the time? I mean, why do unattended offices need to be lit up after hours? So wasteful. Not to mention trains that sit at terminals for hours with lights and air con on but no passengers, diesel engines running while waiting, etc.

  4. since earth hour begin sky news has been showing the light go off at different landmarks around australia as well as turning off the background studio lights for the hour

  5. Let’s celebrate Human Achievement Hour – Saturday 7.30pm.

It’s for those who don’t want to …”sit naked in the dark without heat, clothing, or light.”

“Eat some packaged food, drive, use your microwave, your dishwasher, or watch movies, for example.”
