GO!99 for entertainment?

Is GO!99 the name of Channel Nine's upcoming entertainment channel? Hmmmmmm....

go99Today TV Tonight asks if “GO!99” will be the name of the upcoming entertainment channel  that Nine is planning to launch?

As part of its multichannelling, a new entertainment channel will begin in the second part of the year. Based on this leaked logo, Nine’s font is sleek, contemporary and alters from its traditional “9.”

So far there is no word on what titles may comprise the new-look channel but Nine has previously been reported as seeking to utilise content that has been stored in its library due to a ‘lack of air space’ on its primary channel.

Advertisers on its main channel could be offered free ads on the new channel as part of the initial launch.

Sales Director Peter Wiltshire has previously indicated Nine was aiming for an August start-up.

  1. nine have more than enough content to fill this new channel. To name a few shows they could show new eps/series of:
Little Britain US, Survivor, ER, Supernanny, Kitchen Nightmares, The F Word, Primeval, Flashpoint, Men in Trees, Weeds, Gossip Girl, Balls of Steel, Big Bang Theory, Old Christine, til death, Power of Ten, Superstars of Dance, Crusoe

  2. Separate branding would be a good idea, but I am sure they would still want an outlet for dumped ch 9 shows and re-runs as well as encores and time shifts. This is not official yet though, is it. I always though E9, 9 plus or 9 extra would have been good names here (some other posts mentioned as well). Can’t wait to see the programming.

  3. not a fan of the GO! part of the name, but ‘Something’ Channel 99 wouldn’t be too bad, and the font isn’t that bad either.
I think Channel 99 on its own would work.

  4. @cpandilo, i hope they dont simulcast anything live from channel 9. its ment to be a new channel not just the same thing on 9.

i carn’t see this channel having decent programing from 2am or so, unless u call home shopping programing or it will be like ABC2 at night and show guide information which wouldn’t be that bad, well its better then home shopping, hang-on i don’t know about that.

but i do hope they show some time-sifted programing from channel 9 and new programing/programing that didn’t work on 9 to be seen in full on this channel.

At the end of the day it makes no/very little different what the logo looks like and it only matters whats on the channel.

Yeah i can see alot of old shows on in the daytime, and i hope some of this will also be on 9HD even if its on at a later time or even 2 days later at 11:30pm if i was on GO99 at 9:30pm

  5. Lose the ! and yeh it’s not a bad effort. And let’s face it, Nine has an excellent back catalogue of awesome shows it never had the balls to air.

  6. oh my freakin lord. All theyve done is take the GQ font and made it shit with an exclamation point. google it if u dont believe me. ch 9 continue to prove how few original ideas they posess

  7. “GO!99″… Probably a little too cheesy, although I like the font. But why don’t they use the traditional Nine logo and incorporate it into this new channel’s logo? There are no running motifs that connect Channel Nine to this supposed GO!99.

  8. I would have called it Nine Extra. With it airing a mixture of new series during primetime (series which either didn’t rate, e.g. Gossip Girl, Survivor; or series which didn’t last, e.g. The Evidence, Hidden Palms), with some encores of series shown on Channel Nine.

During daytime there would be classic series, e.g. I Dream Of Jeannie, Cheers, kid’s programs and repeats of series including Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Survivor and also some repeats of Australian television series. The channel would probably become a simulcast of Channel Nine from midnight till 9am.

Another positive would be that the channel would show sport which runs overtime (e.g. cricket) leaving Channel Nine to air what has been scheduled on time from Nine News onwards. Nine News & A Current Affair would be timeshifted by 30 minutes, starting from 6.30 weeknights.
Unlike what others have commented, Nine Extra would be supplementary to Channel Nine – not stand alone.

However based on the above logo, I think the ident of channel 99 (if that is the real one) will probably not be that good.

  9. oh my god. all theyve done is take the GQ font and made it ugly by adding an exclamation mark. congrats, ch9 once again u’ve shown how utterly devoid of creativity you are.

  10. I’m looking forward to it, I just hope shows like Weeds and Curb Your Ethusiasm get aired in decent slots. Also hope WIN pick it up immediately unlike SC Ten with ONE…although I’ve started seeing promos on SC Ten for One.

  11. I think ch9 could improve on this name and logo by calling their ents channel ‘Toss Pot TV’ their programmers would feel right at home and could practise totally stuffing things up, not that they need much more help!!!!!!!!!

  12. the logo looks good, good to see also that it is completely different than the 9 logo as to say i will be a completely different channel, also remember seven said on feb 25 that they would announce details on their second channel within a month!!

  13. yeah i guess it ok, i think its good it not called something like 9SD2 or have anything to do with the 9 logo, it needs to separate itself from the main channel which is what it is doing. could we see a GO77 from seven that way the could share ads and content with each other.

overall i think its a good idea.
i wish someone at seven could leak something.

  14. oh please no. remove the ” ! ”
unless its an extreme sports channel, exclamation marks never work well. granny will topple over if pushed into forced excitement over days of our lives repeats.
