Millionaire: “20 nights! $20M!”

By David Knox on April 6, 2009 / Filed Under News 17

wwtbam2Eddie McGuire probably won’t be settling in for a long haul on Millionaire Hot Seat if an online promo is anything to go by.

“20 nights! $20 million dollars!” he declares.

The modified Millionaire format is expected to be a fast-paced half-hour edition of the show, in which contestants have just one life line that effectively passes the question to the next contestant. Contestants can only pass once and must answer a question if it passed to them. The prize pool also shrinks as questions are answered incorrectly. The last player standing stands to collect the remaining cash.

As first tipped by TV Tonight in February, the new version is based on European models and considered to work best as a short-run series.

So if it’s just one month of episodes will Nine pencil it in for a prime 7pm slot?

    Thanks,

    Ross Carlson.

You can be sure media would be criticising a game show if criminals (and its a very broad term) went home with big cash prizes, so Millionaire is not alone in this regard. I’m not sure your claims he has turned his back on his heritage are accurate.

Have you met the man? I think we should stick to on air, or reported, commentary.

mcquire is a scumbag who has turned his back on his heritage! and channel 9 isn’t far behind in this regard! when someone is rejected as a contestant for “who wants to be a millionaire” and “hot seat” on the basis of having a criminal record i mean really? what exactly has that to do with a person’s IQ and/or the ability to answer a few simple dorky questions put to you by this out and out scumbag mcquire? just more discrimination and victimisation i have to endure and tolerate because i made some mistakes when i was younger…what a load of bollocks…and eddie…i won’t be watching you..i’ll remain staunch and watch andy!

Paul – You need to get out more.

Don’t know why they have to change the format. A fast show based on the original would be better, and probably work better, than a new format involving passing questions onto other contestants.

I for one can’t wait. I just found out I’m a contestant and film my episode Wednesday 15th April.

The new format looks really interesting and at least it gives everyone of the contestants a fair go in their episode (6 contestants per eppy).

    Lock it in Eddie!

@Tony: How could you say that about andrew O’Keefe!! He’s by far my favourite game host, and his humour is classic! He is awesome, that’s all i can say.

It is amazing the ‘spin’ language tv channels are using to attract a naive audience. This includes language such as:

    encore – repeat
adults only – nothing different – we just added these words so you might see some naughty bits.
Hotseat – all our other gameshows have failed, so we are doing something really stupid (no different to our other decisions) and remarketing the last one that failed – because we cant learn anything from our mistakes.

Eddie Maguire – Sucessful show? – Bet ya a Million bucks it’s a dud. Having said that, anything is better than an andrew o’keefe show. And 7 are surprised O’keefe isn’t up for a Logie? The guy’s a pretentious prat. Watched DOND this week for the first time…. I wanted to kick the screen into the smug git’s face. Sheesh…How’s this guy got a job????

I reckon it’s 5.30 bound… Nine will attempt to counter program a game show with a game show

millionaire works better as a once a week hourly program, making it a half hour weeknight program just cheapens the whole format.
